I recorded several DJ mixes I made onto my computer and then used Goldwave to edit the music. Cutting it into individual tracks and mastering the recording and I'm pretty happy with Goldwave.

I am currently thinking of recording my modest vinyl collection of about 250 records to FLAC, however this already seems a daunting task to me with only 250 records. Let alone with your huge library, of which I am very jealous btw. Anyway, I am currently thinking of trying to download my vinyl collection instead of recording it myself since this will safe me a huge amount of work. The problem though is that I would like to have the digital copies of my vinyl collection at 192 kHz FLAC files when even finding most of these songs op mp3 will be difficult. YMMV

But maybe for you downloading would be an option? Even if that means paying a small amount for each track? If you outweigh the time saved vs the cost of a song in *cough* iTunes *cough*, which has files in AAC, which is a considerable improvement from mp3, it might well be worth downloading.

start mediamonkey 3 up.

go to folder where you keep your mmip files in.

double click the mmip file like you are starting a program.

go back to the mediamonkey program you will see the extenstion box showing you it is ready
to install that mmip file. just click install.

if that does not happen then it might just install scripts with out you needing to click install, after you double click the mmip file.

if your on vista you need to right click on the mediamonkey icon and start it in admin mode to install mmip files.
i think you right click it? not sure how to get it but i know vista wants you in admin mode to use them.
8)
thats all you do with them.

mmip is mediamonkey install package. :)
except on my web page where you got the file from it has the silverback holding the mmip banner and the page says mmip stands for mediamonkey install pounder just a joke cause its that big ape holding the banner. but its package.

rovingcowboy,
I've downloaded the JukeBox script. You refer to it as a mmip script. Sorry to be dumb here but what does that mean? Where can I find installation instructions? I get the general jest of how it works with playlist and starting it up from the dropdown play function. I've got my mm working pretty smooth right now and I don't want to foul things up cause I don't know what I'm doing. Thanks.

I was just curious if there was a index plugin for Artist. I wasn't expecting you (or anybody else) to write one. I'll checkout the Jukebox script it sounds really cool. Thanks.

you can find the jukebox i did get made by ray, in the scripts room in the all scripts thread.
there is a link there to get it from my site,
and it has some minor instructions there.

its easy to install its an mmip file.

you get it by the play menu. just click the play menu and then click the jukebox link there.

as i said it is on the screen all the time but it does look like the remote drugstore booth wall jukeboxes.

you can also go to this link and go down the page until you see the jukebox image then click it
to download the mmip.

its the same link as in the all scripts thread.

i don't know how to script or program so i can't think about any way of making that tree plug in.
somebody else will have to do that. 8)

Yes, that's the one I'm talking about. How / where do I get it? I hope there are instructions on getting it installed and running. I was lucky enough to plan for duplicates and so far I haven't run into any problems. I use my Master spreadsheet to mark the best copy of titles that I more than one of. So when I come across one to rip that has a better copy somewhere down the line I just skip it. Of course my collection is fixed and I won't be adding any 're-dos' of tracks I already have. I see where that won't work in your case. MM is flexible enough to suit both our needs. Did you have a chance to ponder my question on a library tree plugin for 'Artist' that would use A - Z indexing instead of listing all the artist names?

i'm not sure what jukebox plugin your talking about i only know of a script i asked for that is called jukebox.

yes i use it. all you do with it is load the names of the playlists in to the slots and then you can start the jukebox script by going to the player button on the menu. it stays on the screen all the time and needs the main theme on the screen too. i'm not sure how to get it to not use the main theme all the time i don't program. i had wanted it for a floating player but ray had made it that way, so i changed it and had him take off all the player controls i had wanted in it. so its working now like a remote jukebox mainframe controlling unit that it looks like. but
with the main theme showing it is good to use if you have a big screen and can shrink the skin to a size that fits behind the jukebox image so you can do other stuff on the computer then.

if that is not the jukebox your talking about then i am sorry again that i got it wrong.

i use as my music jukebox my win98 computer with mm 2.5 on it and it plays by scripts of peke's windows task scheduler scripts that start up different playlists. it runs all day on those and even shuts off or restarts by the windows task scheduler jobs.
that is what i call my jukebox, but its just mediamonkey 2.5 playing music like that.
i use mm 3.0.3 on this computer and i use most any skin i got for it any time i get the feeling to change
but most the time its my skins i made. i have a few of the skins for mm 3 that others created too.

but just the artist and title storage i can't really use. i got too many double copys of songs by the same artists.
one the first one and one a re do one. like hank williams sr. there are several he did then went back a few years later and added in more music to them or recorded them in better studios where they sound better.
his song "a fool for you " i think that is the correct title? has been done three ways in differnt years.
so just putting the artist and title path causes me errors.

Hi rovingcowboy,
I have not used any filters. I just cut and paste from my collection master spreadsheet when ripping from Spin It Again. Then I move tracks to my A-Z directory structure before doing the add / rescan thing. Then I do a tag from filename to get all my entered data in place. It's cumbersome but it works. My directory Tree consists only of Artist and Titles as that's all the Whitburn publication uses. I append all ranking information to the title name, works great, especially the way it scrolls on the player display. Once I get all my collection converted I'll start learning about playlist and some or the other neat stuff MM can do. After mucho playing around with the player options I finally have it working the way I want. Do you or anyone you know use the "Jukebox" plugin? It looks like it would just blow those Itunes (no offense) users away. Has the question of having the directory tree show A through Z for Artists like it is done for Titles? Thanks for your input and help.

2 weeks 75 a day? man i did 100 a day once and it dang near made me want to toss the computer out the house window.

i'm guessing that you do not do any wav editing or adjustments of the song files like i do? cause i only got about 1250 in 3 months time not every day just 3 to 5 days in a row and then stopped over a few days.

but you still trying to set up the user mask?

um billboard like?

i recall they set the list up as number of weeks at a postion, then song title then artist?

did i make that guess correct?

you could set up a mask like

c:\my music\ <rating> \ <title>\<artist>\<filename>

i'm not sure if you can use a tag for ratings as i show or if you need to use magic nodes to get that in there.

if that is not what you want sorry. :(

I finally settled on Spin It Again coupled with a M-Audio Transit USB audio interface. SIA does an OK job on vinyl and tape and removes most common noise problems such as hiss, pops and clicks. Some of my older 45 RPM vinyl however has noise than SIA can't handle so I'm using Wave Corrector which so far has worked miracles. My biggest stumbling block has been getting the converted files into MM the way I wanted. My collection consist of singles based on Billboards Top 100 Pop Charts. MM imo is geared toward albums. So even if I rip an album like "The Best Of Jethro Tull" I'm doing it to create singles. My goal is to build a database structure that mirrors Joel Whitburn's "Top Pop Singles" publication. I've made decent progress despite the fact there is no manual for MM. I've learned quite a bit through trial and error. This forum has been a huge help. It is frustrating though not to find answers and then submitting a post that seems pretty basic when I find out how MM works. I knew this wouldn't be a simple task when I started, but as of today I've converted almost 1100 tracks in 2 weeks time, averaging about 75 a day. Only 12,000 or so to go. :D

sounds like gold weave might take a lot more hands on then audacity.
but sounds like audacity also does the same with pop and clicks and stuff only they use plugin style or other scripts that are added by the developers that 3d party scripters wrote to do the stuff.

looks like they just made a easier to use program but i guess both would do, hey has he figured out any little tricks to get the sound right on the songs after they are put in the computer or while adding them in.?

or any tips?

i found old albums from 1974/75 are the limit for not having to adjust any of the sound quality on. any years older then those will need to have the wav editor be used on the computer versions.

also i found that songs i put in from tape were sounding good on the tape's and when i put them in the system.
but for some reason they are about 10 seconds shorter then the ones i put in from the vinyl over the usb turntable.

not sure why they are shorter the recent ones also sound better as i add them in to the system with higher bit rates of up around 270. get more clearness and crisper sound from the old albums.

also can you say what to do when you get a album that has,? i guess little bubbles in the vinyl groove that make it skip the songs. i can't even see anything in the groove I've used cleaner for albums to get rid of any thing and still can't see what makes it skip. so it has to be in the vinyl right? how did you fix them or did you get it fixed?
most the time it skips in a place the song is repeated near the end. so i can just take that good section and paste it in on the part that skips.
but now and then it skips where the song is not repeated. are those just lost songs? :-?

Over the past 10 years, my husband has ripped most of our LP and tape collection. We have a lot of unique live concerts and rare albums, so there's no way to buy the recordings anew. He has done this with a program called Goldwave.
Goldwave allows you to record anything that you hear on your PC (assuming you have have a sound card that supports this). Goldwave also has a lot of features to remove ticks etc.
You need some experience with it, and it is a lot of work, but the result is really great!

wow i got my 45's in the sleeve if it had one, and stuffed in a box. some others in one of those round carrying cases from the 60's , my tapes in a box also with my cd's. my albums are in foot locker style trunk. and in the old
pionner stereo glass door wheeled cabinet, looked like a good place to keep them. :D

Robert,
Luckily I have been through that task already. I have all my collection listed by Title and Artist in an Excel spreadsheet. In addition the spreadsheet entry tells me exactly where the LP, cassette tape or 45 is located within my storage scheme. I use a large cabinet for my LP's which are numbered sequentially, numbered record storage boxes for my 45's and numbered cassettes kept in slotted plastic bins. So i.e. when I want to find and play "Are you Ready?" by "Pacific Gas and Electric" I would do an Excel 'find' on either "Are You Ready?" or "Pacific Gas and Electric". It would then tell me that the 45 is located in '45 record storage box' #39 and has 1970120 printed on the record sleeve. Now I would go to '45 record storage box' #39 and locate the record sleeve with 1970120 on it. The 1970120 number comes from Joel Whitburn's "Pop Annual" publication which all Pop venue songs that charted in "Billboard Magazine" are ranked within the year they charted. So of the 635 songs that charted in 1970 "Are You Ready?" comes in at #120. All my collection is 'Rock and Roll' or 'Pop' as some people refer to it and covers the years 1954 through 1994. It took quite a while to get all this information together and organized. It will take considerably longer to get it all digitized. But once I get it all on a hard drive with MM in control finding and playing "Are You Ready?" will be a lot easier. Thanks again for your help, I'll keep an eye out for that Stereophile article.
