Unfortunately, that is not necessarily the case.
A track can still be unsynchronized and not have all its meta data in the file, even if it doesn't show up under Unsynchronized Tags.

So I would proceed very carefully - you may very well loose data if you wipe out the database, even if you have configured MediaMonkey to save all tags to the file and even if nothing shows up under Unsynchronized Tags.

Reinstalling (or uninstalling and installing) MM does not delete your MM.db, so does not effect your library nor your songs.

Your preferences will be kept (IMO), so that won't solve your error message.

Thanks Lowlander, that helps a lot.
Nothing appears in the Unsynchonised Tags node, so all must be saved to the music file. Looking good.
Also, one other problem is appearing. I accidentally typed in the word "Format" to the 5th Custom Field Setting in Library > Appearance. Everytime when I now open Media Monkey the following error appears:

"Your Custom Field "Format" has an improper name.
please rename it with some other text value and restart the....

When I go to Library > Appearance and change the name to something else, it has no effect when I open the program again. the same error keepsd appears with Format still named in Custom Field 5. This is why I want to uninstall and reinstall the program again.
Just wondering if you might be bable to offer an extra insight into solving this problem.
Thanks Lowlander.
Cheers.

It depends on your settings under Tools > Options > Tags & Playlists, but by default MediaMonkey saves the tags to the files as well. See here for which tags are saved for each file type: http://www.mediamonkey.com/sw/webhelp/f ... erties.htm

You can verify that tags are saved by going to Library > Files to Edit > Unsynchronized Tags node. Select whatever files show up there and use Tools > Advanced Tag Management > Synchronize Tags.

Reinstalling MM

by surfer1 » Fri Aug 21, 2009 11:05 pm

Hi, I'd like to reinstall MM, if I do, when I uninstall it will I lose all the tag data I've inputted, like Temp, Mood, Occasion, comments and other data. Is this info stored in the music file itself or MM data base? Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to lose all the infor I've been keying in.
Cheers.
