If you've got your whole library listed, and have "location" as a column, you can just sort the entire library by that column, and then select and delete from the library (not computer, in my case, since I wanted the backups!) the duplicates I didn't want to see.

No doubt there are other ways of doing this, but I found this quick and easy.

Thanks,
I think that's what I've done. I tried the 'delete the duplicates' procedure, but after 7 hours, I just pulled the plug on the whole thing and deleted the program. I think I'm going to clean up the source file a bit and try again with a manual upload.

Thanks though.'

I closed the app which terminated the duplication at 54,000 or so and then I reopened and am using the search for duplicate content to see if it'll show similar songs with different paths.

Am I on the right track with this and will I be able to delete the duplicates without causing myself futher grief?

Thanks,

You underestimate my ignorance. I'll probably need expanded guidance. As to where I let it, on the install, it asked where did I want to obtain files and I sent it to the file on my desktop that contained the music files that I had transferred over from my office computer. There may have been a 'and when you finish those, search for other files' box checked but I didn't see it.

Curiously, we're up to 52, 880 and counting as we speak. (Out of a 38,000 folder). And, the files that are scrolling in the little add window at the base of the app appear to be files that are in the music folder. (Beatles, Joni Mitchell, etc).

The number that appears there include all files that are scanned, even non-media type files that will not be included in the library (.jpg files, etc.)

Is there an easy way to delete files from the MM data base based on path?

Thanks again.

Mike

See the Music > Location node.

Ok, that last sentence gave me a thought, it appears that Windows decided to upload the music files and now MM is copying from my original folder and from the MS Media player database.

Is there an easy way to delete files from the MM data base based on path?

Thanks again.

Mike

Wherever you let it scan. You can use the Location node to determine where files are stored and also use the Path field.

Where is MM getting all these tracks?

Hi, new user.

I'm starting from a new laptop with a fresh 640Gg hard drive. I copied my music files (36,000+ tracks) to the desktop and sic'd the monkey on it. Well, it's been over 24 hours now and the monkey has apparently loaded over 50,000 tracks.

Two questions:

Where are all these files coming from?

When will it stop?

Thanks,

Mike
