I find bpm only a part of equation for successful Mixing. For years I use harmonics mixing in my sets where BPM is used to do live mix but key is essential and make BPM almost obsolete (personal opinion).

See http://www.mixedinkey.com/ also I love how mixvibes products count BPM.

Still no automatic BPM analyser for FLAC it seems. Any updates?

In the meantime, I tag my FLACs using MixMeister BPM Analyzer to get the BPM, but still have to manually add the results to their metadata. It's a tedious job, but it beats the hell out of working out the tempo manually, especially if you have 1000s of FLAC tunes that you really want BPM-tagged! If anyone's interested, here's how to do it... pretty simple really.

- Go into Windows Explorer and select the parent folder of the FLACs (or whichever audio format) you want to analyse and tag
- In the Search pane, search for "*.flac"
- Instead of dragging the results to the BPM Analyser, add them to your audio format converter of choice (I use dbPowerAmp Music Converter)
- Convert to MP3 (64kbps quality will do. Make sure the program is set to keep the original FLAC files and export to a new, empty folder.)
- Add the newly created MP3 files to the BPM analyser and convert
- Once converted, click "Export to text file" and open the file
- In the original "*.flac" search pane, select all again, and drag in to an empty Winamp (or whatever) playlist

The playlist should be in the same order as the BPM list, so now you can manually tag in the detected BPM values. You have to really want your music tagged or it won't be worth the hassle, but it's the quickest way I can think of. I've still got a long way to go (around 700 files), so if anyone has any better ideas, please speak up!

To all - I have been using the MixMeister for quite a while now. It is GENERALLY pretty accurate. There are some songs which I know are clearly wrong, but for a quick BPM check, I am pretty satisfied.

BPM is stored in the files tags and MediaMonkey supports this tag: http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... erties/4.0 You can manually add BPM to the tags in MediaMonkey and there are some Addons like BPM Tapper (http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... bpm+tapper), but MediaMonkey can't do it automatically. The only automatic tool that has been mentioned on the forum is the MP3 only Mixmeister BPM Analyzer (http://download.cnet.com/MixMeister-BPM ... 90906.html).

here for the same reason, i see MM has some support for existing bpm data.
does anyone know where that data is stored?

using the duplicate find and fix tool there is also an option to compare bpm and it returns results, not the complete collection but a handful, so it is getting that info somewhere.

Chris, I am not at all happy with mixmeister performance.
Trouble is I know of no other program that will measure the BPM in not only mp3 and now more than ever required, in Flac format.
As far as I can see, it's hopeless! Anyone have any good suggestions?

Thank you Jimbutt - I was suspicious and thank you for running your tests - however you did it? - I agree the BPM Analyzer is not reliable.

I'm not aware of an automated way to analyze BPM for Flac files. It is something I'd like to be able to do as well.

I use the freebie MixMeister BPM Analyzer to analyse MP3s - it won't do FLAC files.

What can I use to analyse my FLAC tracks..??
Thanks,
