copy playlists.. sync settings

by tableguy » Sat Jan 19, 2008 4:45 pm

If I understand this correctly, could someone tell me how to restore my ipod from disk mode?

Thank You

what I've ended up doing is using hte normal ipod dll to sync my songs... whenever I want to update my m3u playlists, I switch out the normal ipod plugin with jiri's one... that updates the m3u's but for some reason the ipod db gets screwed... then I just swap back the dll's and sync again so that my ipod db is also correct.

a bit of a pain.. but okay for short term.

Jake,

if you've gone back to 2.5.2 then you shouldn't have a problem at all... 2.5.2 can copy m3u playlists no problem... it was only disabled in 2.5.3

I did synch with itunes and it worked fine. I finally solved my problem by reinstalling mediamonkey 2.5.2 and was very pleased to see that all of my settings and auto playlists were waiting for me when I opened it! So much for rockbox but at least I can load videos and see album art. Thanks to everyone for the help - hopefully someone will learn from this.

Have you tried synching with iTunes? This shouldn't be problem caused by MM...

I'm not positive but I have completely removed rockbox and after restoring my ipod to the most current firmware then synching with mediamonkey, I remove my ipod from the usb cable and it restarts over and over until it either runs out of power or I enter disk mode and restore it again. Any ideas?

The iTunesDB should really be properly created on iPod and it should also work fine, but I haven't tried to install RockBox and test it. Re. booting problem, is it really because of synchronization with the latest plug-in?

hi Jake.. sorry to hear that.. but thanks for confirming that I'm not crazy...

thanks Jiri for the hard work... shame it hasn't worked... I can wait if I have to, for the next release.

Jiri, I'd post the dll for you but I'm not sure if that's okay... so I wont. I just had to install media monkey again.

OK, I spoke too soon. Now my ipod won't boot after synching with mediamonkey with the new dll. It just keeps restarting my ipod over and over until I enter disk mode and reinstall the original firmware. Where can I get the old ipod.dll? I think I'm just going back to apple firmware but I'll miss the rockbox sound quality.

Dalede - after using the new DLL I can't boot into the original firmware at all. Still working on finding a way to use mediamonkey and watch videos on my G5.

Jiri - thank you very much for your hard work and amazing software. I'll never stop using mediamonkey!

I can't go completely empty and try again..
but I've tried a few times and it doesn't create the itunes DB....
I've tried rebuilding the database (set to all files) and that still doesn't create it.

Jake,

Jiri said above that even though you can't check "copy m3u playlists" you can still type a directory name into the field.

also, I can't get it to work for me.... it does copy the m3u playlists and they work fine... but the ipod DB then ends up blank... so the m3u's work but if I boot into the normal ipod firmware I have no tracks or playlists...

Jake, can you please boot into the normal ipod firmware and check?

thanks,

Dale.

Playlists on Rockbox

The updated ipod dll worked great. Thank you so much for your hard work! Does this allow us to choose where the playlists are synched or do they always go to the root?

I'll try it from an empty device in the next couple of days and let you know...

Are you sure? I really should work as a standard iPod plug-in, it did for me. Maybe you could try to start with an empty device (if it isn't a big problem for you), but it should work anyway.

okay.. tried it... one problem..

yes, it transferred the playlists into a directory.. but it didn't create the itunes database file.

it needs to do both.. otherwise it's no better than the generic usb plugin?

and me being stupid.. I didn't backup the old ipod plugin so I had to reinstall media monkey.

thanks,
Dale.
