Re: Android support? When?

I saw someone saying they were having trouble with getting a player that does display by Genre. Two of them that I know of are Mixzing (which also reads m3u playlist btw) and Meridian. Meridian has plans to support m3u but has not implemented it yet, nor does the author have a timeframe.

I understand the need/want for ratings, although that is not a deal killer for me. To say that sync is useless without it is a bit drastic. Being able to do a two-way sync of just files has it's benefits over just simple drag/drop. At the very least it keeps track of what has changed and syncs the changes. A more native sync capability, however would be nice.

Only AutoSync will not copy all tracks again, manual sync will copy all files again.

I have an HTC Evo and I think there's a problem with syncing.
I've created playlists and enabled auto-sync which works fine when I plugin my Evo, although it takes a long time to sync with a message that says "preparing tracks".
Yesterday I got the message "not enough free space on the device to sync" after adding a few songs to my playlists but I have plenty of space after checking.
I think the way it calculates, it takes the entire size of my playslist, and checks how much space is left on the phone before copying even though I've only added 10 new songs to what's already on my phone.
the over issue i've noticed, is that if I only want to sync one playlist by right clicking and choose send to->portable device (sync), it copies over ALL the songs all over again even if I only added 1 song to the list.
Is this an option that I might have left enabled?

Thank you.

PS: Android is becoming almost as big as the ipone so it would be nice to get an official plugin to fix all this.

we need to be able to sync ratings from computer to phone and back from phone to computer without this the sync function is useless. I can just as easily drag files from my computer to the phone thats not syncing thats basic moving files. We need real syncing of ratings 2 ways like itunes...

Re: This method also works with Nokia N97!

Thank you jpdhonda!

I own an Nokia N97 (Symbian Os s60v5 22.0.110)
This is also the solution to prevent my music being dropped in the root of my mass memory.
I searched for a while and desided to give your guide a try.
Also i did unchecked all drivers except for the one called “d_USBMass1.dll"
With succes, as we speak 1895 mp3's are copied to my internal mass memory!

thx again!

This thread has been excellent for syncing with my HTC Desire - thanks very much. I too used the WDMA update 'fix' to the MM.ini file.

One small problem I've found though: My library is on a network share and MM handles it all without a hiccup - even across Wifi.
However, only playlists are synced with the HTC, the music files don't get copied over - no error messages, no nothing.

I then tried copying one folder and one mp3 track from the network into the "my music' folder on the PC HDD I'm using to sync with the HTC and hit the sync button. Presto! the folder and file are copied over and sync'd.

I also tried an old-fashioned copy and paste using MM, from the network library to the phone - same problem - nothing happens.
Is there something I've missed?

Hi I have a problem with my droid running 2.2 operating system. When I originally used the phone I had the same problem described here and used the above procedures to correct the problem. Now with the new operating system I notice that is I disable the d_WMDM plug in my droid disappears from my list of portable devices. If I leave it on then it syncs to the root of the sd card. What has changed and what am I doing wrong

I am able to sync, but it is putting all files (and playlists) in the root of the phone. I set "\Music\" for both. Anyone else see this behavior? I'd like to have all music go into the Music and playlists go into the "Music" folder.

I have a Samsung Vibrant.

Thanks!

Excellent post. I'm able to control the sync on my DroidX a whole lot better now. Thanks.

Thanks for the walkthrough - changing the configuration worked beautifully for me - I also noticed that I have a TON more options when I right-click the device in the left sidebar - a welcome benefit.

Now that I can have MediaMonkey properly sync to a specific hierarchy, it's also solved a problem that I have with genres - aside from the HTC SenseUI music player, there isn't a single Android music player app (that I've found) that lets you browse by genre, which is 80% of how I choose what music to listen to (I'm more of an FM-radio type rather than an Album-type). By having MediaMonkey create a hierarchy that uses Genre for a folder, I can use various Android music players that let me specify a folder. It's a workaround, but it works, nonetheless. Thanks so much!

Thanks jpdhonda
Unchecking the other drivers directly fixed the same problem on my spanking new Desire.

Mark Ruys wrote:I did manage to use d_WMDM.dll to mount my Nexus One, but I had to add a ini setting as described in http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=16&nav=0 "Sync to Zen device is incomplete and uses wrong mask".

Tip: if you need gapless playback on a Nexus, don't use MP3 but Ogg.

That simple setting fixed it for my Droid. A lot less work than reconfiguring it to use the USB Mass Storage driver.
Here's the quick version... Edit the mediamonkey.ini file and add this:

[WMDM]
COMApartmentThreading=1

[quote="sophware"] I edit the .m3u files to point to \sdcard\music\etc\etc\etc.mp3 instead of \music\etc\etc\etc.mp3.

Thanks for posting this. It works for me in the Android music player on my Moto Droid.

Here is what I did.
- connected the droid to the Media Monkey PC and mounted the SD card as a drive on the computer.
- on the computer, opened the playlist file with notepad.
- used find and replace to change \Music\ to \sdcard\Music\ (replaced all instances in the file.) Save the file. Repeat for all playlist files.
- unmount the droid sdcard on the computer, and remount the card on the droid.
- opened Android Music app. Saw two instances of the playlists. Opened the first instance, and saw no songs. Close the playlist. Opened the second instance, and saw the songs, and was able to play them.
- for each "blank" playlist as noted above, long touch it on the playlist menu. Then delete it.

Now I can use these playlists on the droid. However, not looking forward to this drill again the next time I sync the phone to media monkey.

Thanks to @jpdhonda and @Mark Ruys, things are going pretty well. I get my mp3s and other music files in a nice hierarchy. My playlists are created in \music\Playlists (or, technically, \sdcard\music\Playlists).

Still, the music app doesn't pick up the playlists (i think this is something specific to my phone) and the path in my .m3u files is wrong. I edit the .m3u files to point to \sdcard\music\etc\etc\etc.mp3 instead of \music\etc\etc\etc.mp3. Then, I play the playlists using an app called "Just Playlists." It works fine as a work-around.

My question:
Regarding the path in my .m3u files, what am I doing wrong or what could i configure to make the "sdcard" folder be there or not be needed?
