Exactly. Because when you re-plug it re-scans the device.

Still happens in MM4 and for some reason I never had that problem in MM3. If I delete a file on the device in explorer and then re-sync, it will not re-add the missing file on the device unless I unplug and replug.

The problem with the MM3 way was that if another program was used to change/delete tracks, then MM was not aware of it and could not update accordingly. The scan prior to sync ensures that everything is up to date when the sync completes.

Would be nice to bring back the way syncing was done on MM3

I would presume it needs to do this for AutoSync to determine what is on the device (and thus what needs to be synced (and deleted if enabled)). 4.0.5.1476 should have improved scanning speed for some (if you're not using it yet).

It still scans even after disabling scanning. It seems Mediamonkey has to scan, so when I start syncing it still scans.

Have you disabled it in the Device Profile?

I would like to disable scanning before syncing to a device as it was in MM3. Scanning takes forever and sometimes I'm on the run I want to sync before I jump into the car and listen to my new music. I have a 5.5 gen iPod running Rockbox and use it as a d_USBMass1.dll so i don't have to use it as an d_ipod.dll. d_ipod.dll creates the standard iPod's wonky file structure. It's probably necessary for android and MTP devices but it's annoying. :(
