Re: Power Config 1.2 - Updated 19/08/2010

Finally i found a reason the power set up was screwed up on my computer.

1.When making changes to the times for the different fields, you MUST save the new time scheme as a different name it will not overwrite any.

2. Now in doing that it creates the hotkeys in the registry but will assign an number to the new policie hotkey, and the name, it will not add the discription string for the new policie.

3. In the registry you MUST select one of the original policies for the powercfg hotkey, then look at the strings in that one and make sure the new one you created has the same strings, and has the same first part of the discription string, so all powercfg policies have same first half of the discription,.

4. Now check the number for the policie hotkey you created, make sure it is in the proper order, if there were only 0 - 5 from microsofts setting then the one you created MUST be number 6.

5. The policies hotkeys from microsoft MUST be the first numbers your created ones can not replace thiers.

6. You can not delete any of the microsoft original policies, going past 9 in total has the chance of them NOT showing in the menu for you to choose from.

That is what i had to do in my system to get it working again.

forgot all about this script.

but i now have no way of changing the power scheme at all and it now nolonger works in xp pro sp3.
by no way i mean the panel won't show any choices and all setting boxes are completely grayed out?

not sure if this script did that or some update from ms? i know this new monitor did not do it because it uses the windows drivers and has none from the monitor manufacture to install.

just strange that you should post in this thread the same time i find mine is not working any more.

Most Addons can be uninstalled under Tools > Extensions.

I've been getting the same error message. Can't believe the original question was posted several years ago and there's been no reply with a fix... how do I uninstall this add-on?

Hi,
Winxp Pro with MM 4.05.1496
Received the dreaded "active plan query failed" message :(

I'd be willing to do some testing for you.

There should be no differences between laptop and desktop, only between being plugged into the mains (AC) or running on a battery/UPS (DC).

here is what mine looks like with that test txt.

of course this is with the fact i had already changed the setting to never.

i'll go and do it again with it changed to a number so you can see what it does which is nothing.
but i'll show you anyway. :D

  • Field Description Value
    ----------------- -----
    Name Always On
    Numerical ID 3
    Turn off monitor (AC) Never
Turn off monitor (DC) After 5 mins
Turn off hard disks (AC) Never
Turn off hard disks (DC) After 10 mins
    System standby (AC) Never
System standby (DC) After 5 mins
    System hibernates (AC) Never
    System hibernates (DC) Never
    Processor Throttle (AC) NONE
    Processor Throttle (DC) NONE
now this list of settings is what is default and it always goes to this after a reboot.
i can't get it to save the settings above. when i change to those.
  • default setting
    Field Description Value
    ----------------- -----
    Name Always On
    Numerical ID 3
Turn off monitor (AC) After 20 mins
Turn off monitor (DC) After 5 mins
Turn off hard disks (AC) Never
Turn off hard disks (DC) After 10 mins
    System standby (AC) Never
System standby (DC) After 5 mins
    System hibernates (AC) Never
    System hibernates (DC) Never
    Processor Throttle (AC) NONE
    Processor Throttle (DC) NONE

Success at last. :D

what is needed to be done is in my case change the max batterie to always on in the script line of code.

lowlander must be on a laptop.

i'm on a tower.
there must be a difference in the way the names of the settings are kept. from laptop to desktop? or from xp home to xp pro?
or from xp sp2 to xp sp 3?

you might have to make it find the name of the current setting and then change it.
:D

powercfg -change "Max Battery" -monitor-timeout-ac 0
...and see if it sets your monitor timeout to "Never" in your current power plan?

putting that code in a bat file and running the bat file did not change my power scheme at all.

if it works on other xp pro sp3 systems in the mediamonkey script you made i'm glad for that.
:D

but mine is still not working :-? :(

Can someone with XP please try opening command prompt (cmd.exe) and running this command...

Code: Select all

powercfg -query >%temp%\Test.txt
...and post the contents of the resultant file?
