MediaMonkey links playlists and changes to them are synced back and forth. This is why Parent Playlists need to be synced as any changes to them in MMA will be reflected in MMW. So if it were empty and you added a file to it in MMA it would wipe the MMW version and only have that 1 file on the next sync.

Sounds like you are requesting the same thing like I did 1 year ago: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 80#p427032

Wow, this drove me crazy. It's clearly not working as it should. Syncing over USB, I had two nested playlists selected, and the capacity graphic below showed that I had 1.3GB of music "to sync" on an empty SD card of 14.5GB, but when I hit sync, it said there wasn't enough space, and started syncing 2500+ songs to the device. After nearly an hour of head-scratching I worked out that it was syncing the music from the parent playlist (folder). Once I moved the playlists out of the folder, it synced as intended.

Since this is clearly not a new issue, there should at least be a warning about nested playlists somewhere.

The only workaround is to not have Playlists that are synced nested in MMW.

I have the exact same issue. I too have Playlists inside Playlist Folders.

When I sync via USB, the Playlists appear on the phone without being in parent folders.

When I sync via WIFI, the playlists appear in the phone in the folders they were in on the computer.

Has anyone found a workaround for this?

MMA uses the same Playlist structure as MMW, there is no setting to change that.

Unwanted nested playlists when syncing by wifi

I just purchased the Android app, and I'm noticing that my playlist structure is different when I sync by wifi vs by USB: playlists that used to be flat are now being nested.

In MMW:
1) I have an auto-playlist named 'Genre', with sub-auto-playlists named 'Rock' and 'Pop'. 'Genre' itself is empty in MMW (it's only a container, used for organization), while the sub-playlists each contain a random selection of 5-star songs in their genre.
2) I have another auto-playlist named 'Favorites' which contains all my 5-star songs; it has sub-playlists named 'Work' and 'Driving' (these are NOT auto-playlists). Note that the 'Favorites' auto-playlist does not explicitly include the 'Work' or 'Driving' playlists, even though they reside under it in the tree-view (ie, if I add a 4-star rated song to 'Driving' it should not/does not appear in 'Favorites')
3) I have my device configured to sync 'Rock', 'Pop', 'Favorites', 'Work', and 'Driving' (note that 'Genre' is NOT selected).

In MMA:
When I sync by USB, the resulting playlists on my device are correct: 'Rock', 'Pop', 'Favorites', 'Work', and 'Driving'. Note that 'Genre' doesn't sync at all (this is correct behavior), and that the entire playlist structure is flat (none of the playlists contain sub-playlists)
When I sync by wifi, the results are different:
1) The main playlist screen in the MMA app only contains 'Favorites' and 'Genre' (even though the parent 'Genre' container is unchecked in the device settings)
2) Each of those playlists now has its sub-playlists as children in the tree view: I can click on 'Favorites' for instance, and it contains all 5-star songs (as it should) but also the 'Work' and 'Driving' playlists

It seems like any playlists automatically sync their parent playlist, even if that playlist isn't checked in the device settings.
It's also not possible to start a playlist by clicking its parent: if I try to play the 'Genre' playlist I get an error that it doesn't contain any media items since it doesn't contain any tracks itself, only the sub-playlists (which I guess don't count as media items).

It's a pretty big nuisance, because the above example is just a simplified version of the real setup, and now I'm having to click through a playlist structure that's 3+ layers deep, rather than the flat structure I would have when syncing by USB (and syncing by wifi is really the big draw in buying the Android app)

For what it's worth:
I have everything configured to transfer playlists as M3U files (not Extended). I've also tried manually deleting the unwanted M3U files directly from Android's file system, without luck. Ie, I was hoping that if I deleted 'Genre.M3U', that playlist would disappear from MMA and the 'Rock' and 'Pop' playlists would appear at the parent level. Unfortunately that didn't work, and the Genre playlist remains in MMA even after the M3U was deleted (I've tried multiple library refreshes since then, to no effect). I wouldn't mind having to delete each of those unwanted parent playlists manually after each sync, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to affect anything when I do...

Hope all that makes sense....thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide.

Josh
