Absolutely! The key, I've finally discovered, is to do all said "constant fiddling" with MediaMonkey. We MUST trust the MONKEY! The monkey knows all.

Continuous scan with MM running during any changes is the way to go if you are "constantly fiddling" around and making changes.

Probably when you made a tag change with Audioshell MM did not pick up the tag changes because you did not rescan the tracks after the change was made (or have the "Continuously scan" option selected for the folder where these tracks were saved). MM only picks up on tag changes in those two scenarios, otherwise it will default to what is saved in its database.
Yep, that's what was happening! Absolutely dead-on with your assessment. So, telling MM in real-time (so to speak) keeps everything right where I want it since she's continually scanning.

Excellent. Looks like we've finally got it. Thank you all for the wisdom and guidance.

EDIT: Let me just clarify that MM was set to "Continuously Scan" during the edits with AudioShell, and MM kept everything in order for two days of continuously scanning, but only made the unwanted changes after the restart.

I see. Such as with an ID3 tag editor?
With Mediamonkey...
Yeah, I spent two days downloading the streams with MediaMonkey and editing the metadata with another program.

Shut down the computer during a storm. Booted back up and MediaMonkey completely reogranized everything in a bad, bad way.

Now I've been using MediaMonkey for the ID3 editing and it's been going along flawlessly.

Should've read (and heeded) your last post before jumping so confidently back into it.

Thanks again, all! I'll report back if there're any more issues.

Just curious, though: What is it about MM's metadata editor vs. another program (AudioShell)? They're performing the same function, right?

The problem I'm foreseeing is that the auto-organizing takes place "on the fly," and the files become merged and messed up before I'd have the opportunity to edit the ID3 tags.

Let me play around with it and see what I can see.

Thanks for the tip!

Edit: Duh! Do it BEFORE I download the next set of tracks. Let's see how it do...

The auto-organize is based on the metadata in the tracks/database, so you should modify the "Album" field rather than the folder itself.

Okay, guys. We're almost there...

I'm running into an issue specific to my current task, so this isn't exactly a wish, per se. There are a lot of options and I've been playing around with them in order to resolve things, but here's the problem I have now:

When I download a set of tracks from an M3U link, and, say the tag info has the album name as "1966-12-01 - The Matrix". I Send To (Copy) the files to my destination drive and they download to the <Album> folder, auto-organize, and everything is perfect.

The next M3U tracks I download are also designated with the album name "1966-12-01 - The Matrix". It's the same album tag, but the audio is from a different source, or a different transfer, etc. As a meticulous collector ( ), I would like to have ALL of the various versions of, say, "1966-12-01 - The Matrix".

Unfortunately, the MP3's tag information doesn't include such specifics, so after it downloads the first 1966-12-01, I will rename the folder quickly to separate it from other 1966-12-01 versions. So the folder that was created by MediaMonkey as "1966-12-01 - The Matrix" is changed by me to "1966-12-01 - The Matrix (Charlie Miller Transfer)".

I then open the next URL in MediaMonkey, to a different version of 1966-12-01. The tracks populate, I highlight them all and I select Send To (Copy). The files appear to be downloading, but when I go to Windows explorer, I can't see that it created the folder or files...

Once the download is complete, it looks like the previous folder was deleted, and a new folder was created. MediaMonkey took the files out of the previous folder and put them into the NEW folder with the freshly-downloaded songs...

So now I've got two track one's, two track two's, etc. All the same title and track number but they're different files from two separate albums, merged.

I can't seem to get this remedied.

The thing is, it happens randomly. I just downloaded five versions of one album. Every folder was renamed after downloading and organizing to separate it from the next one in line...but the 5th one suddenly did it again.

HELP!

I am aware of the Auuto-Organize too, but your idea is still a really good one. I just hope it's not too difficult to code
and that maybe someday we'll see it come to fruition.

I think it's a nice idea.
Yeah, me too! :) You can set the destination drive to auto-scan for organization purposes, and whenever you select "Download files from stream link (M3U, etc.)" it'll handle everything in-house and even create specific folders/re-label the files based upon the tag info (if the resultant files have tag info, of course.)

Thank you all so very, very much!

YOU, sir (or ma'am) are AWESOME!

I can now download the files, and they're automatically downloaded into the destination of my choice and renamed based upon their ID3 tags.

Now, all I have to do is open the M3U link in MediaMonkey, select all the files, right-click and Send To (Copy).

Lowlander wrote:As MediaMonkey can download and automatically organize it would seem possible. The post is too long to re-read, but it seems Auto-Organize (Gold feature) should rename the files once they're downloaded based on their tags.

So, you're saying that MediaMonkey already does this? But only in the premium (gold) version? Or are you saying that it "should" do this, but that it should be a premium feature?

Sorry, I'm not entirely following you...

Organize Files Automatically wrote:Automatically organize and rename audio / video files on your hard drive into a logical hierarchy of your choice according to a set of rules that you define. Classical music can be organized by Composer and Home Videos by Date and MediaMonkey will take care of organizing them automatically as a background process.
See Options > Auto-organize

So this would only fulfill the part of your request after you follow your manual process to download the files, then they will be automatically moved and renamed.
Ahh. So there's an option to automatically organize the files, but I have to download the files, first?

So basically, I can set MediaMonkey to automatically organize the files, and then all I have to do is download the tracks and MediaMonkey will take care of the rest, eliminating my need to take the additional steps of clearing the playlist, dragging and dropping the downloaded files into the playlist, selecting them all and then manually selecting "auto-organize"?

Well, heck! That's essentially what I'm after, if I'm understanding you correctly.

I'll give it a try and report back!
