That's what I thought for #1 but it doesn't work... Anyway, time for release. I'll change it along all the other things people will find out using the skin.

1. Objects/Form/Client or Objects/MainForm/Client (if MainForm exists)
2. No idea, never seen anything like that before!
3. No, there isn't. I would think that the font would be the same as for the rest of the skin as defined in the Theme.mskn, and the backrounds are controlled by Objects/Form and Objects/Container/Panel

I guess it would be a good reference, but skins can be built in so many ways and be named in different enough ways that I wouldn't want to restrict the way skins are made based off of some reference, or have it be confusing because things are named differently. Perhaps I will put something together though, because I do see how it could help when you're first starting out. Of course a lot of the problem is that a lot of skinning is guesswork even for the so called "experts"!

Ok, just three more fixes and I'll release the skin - this is taking too long - and I won't be asking any more questions  well, maybe I will.

1. I changed it before but I can't find it where you change the background for Album Art Window

2. The micro player's background sometimes does not appear when I roll up to it. Is it my PC, my MM or my skin?

3. Is there a single entry in themeeditor for the "Tag From Web" window. If not where do you change the backgrounds and fonts for it.

I think one of you advanced guys should take screenshots of the different MM windows / players / tabs / text etc and add their corresponding names in the themeeditor. It would be an awesome reference. I know it would have been my bible if something like that had existed (and you wouldn't have to answer every single stupid questions the newbies ask  )

Cool, I'll try and do that for the icons.

As for the skinning features I saw there's a sticky or something with features request but no real deadline. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks...again :)

But I still can add a value in the install file to create an Icon folder in the MM directory to put those files in? If any icons are installed it won't overwrite the default MM NoAArt.png, right? And if the user wants to switch to another skin he can delete the files from the Icon folder. Or should I zip'em up with instructions on how to install them? Or just drop the idea for the moment and wait for the new skinning features?

Is there any deadline for those the features to be included in on of the next MM releases? I noticed there's no ads through the MM website or the forum. I don't know anything about financing with advertisement other than it could be a solution to keep the monkey free while speeding up the software's updates process and "reward" the developers. Maybe this discussion belongs to another thread too or has been discussed already...

Victor.
To your first question: Yes, you can do this, and users can delete the icons folder if they don't want to use that pic.

No, there isn't any deadline that I know of. Morten probably knows more about it than any other user on the forum, besides the devs, of course  .

Yeah the one that does not work is the one in the album browser. That's a shame...

Victor.
thats why you make a test folder in your skins folder to test your in process skins.

and thats why you make a folder for your skins that are in production in it you should have folders called the name of each player mskn and the theme mskn plus the icon folder.

when you make your skin you work in that folder and in that icon folder is where you put the png files for the no album art image. then it is that folder you zip in the msz file.

each skin in production should have its own set of folders.

so you never mess up your main skin (if you use them in folders and not msz files) you use in the monkeys skin folder.

  • c:\program files\media monkey\skins\test\mynew skin.msz
that is the folder directory for your nearly completed skins testing.

  • c:\program files\media monkey 3 skins\production skins\
that or something like that should be where all your work files are at.

in that production folder you should have folders like this.
  • .....media monkey 3 skins\production\my new wow skin\theme\
    .....media monkey 3 skins\production\my new wow skin\player\
    .....media monkey 3 skins\production\my new wow skin\floating\
    .....media monkey 3 skins\production\my new wow skin\microplayerH\
    .....media monkey 3 skins\production\my new wow skin\microplayerV\
    .....media monkey 3 skins\production\my new wow skin\icons\
setting them up like that will keep you files from getting messed up for each skin. ( i tried to say that in the lesson on the wiki but i did not put it in that type of view)

the msz file will not overwrite the png in the folder for the main folder's icon folder. what should be said it does is assume command of the displaying of the noaart.png from the default file.

and even though the folder zipped in the msz file is called icons it can not change the icons of the program yet. they are still trying to get that to work.
so you can only change the one, no album art image.

Hmmm, more seriously the NoAArt.png icons does not update if I just put them in the msz file although the wiki says it's the procedure for doing this. So why, oh, why?

Victor.
Putting the NoAArt.png should work just in the .msz file, it works for the ZuneSkin and 5th Gen, among some other skins. I know that NoAArtNew.png doesn't work, although the wiki says it should - is that the one that you mean?

Didn't put them in the Icon folder. But if I put'em in the icon folder it's gonna overwrite any other missing art icon installed by previous skin?

you need to put the folder Icons. in the msz file.

you need to put the noaart.png in to the folder icons.

it has to be the correct spelling must not be any added spaces in the name.

the images for no album art in the ablum browser does not show up for me either, but the one for the ablum art window shows up.

so which is not showing for you? the one for the ablum browser or the albumcover window.?
