Well you can't do it in one Auto-Playlist but you can do it in two

Criteria for first one should look like:
1. Artist -> Equals -> TBMG
2. Custom 1 -> Doesn't contain -> cities

Criteria for Second one should look like:
2. Custom 1 -> contains -> cities
1. Artist -> Doesn't equal -> TBMG

Adding both Lists to now playing gives you what you want.

According to the online help OR is used automatically if more than one cireterion for the same field is added to the search. Of course this does not help you for a search over different fields. Also wished to have that feature though...

No, currently it isn't possible. You can only use OR for one field by writing multiple values separated by ';'.

What I'm looking for is a playlist that contains the songs that have TMBG as the artist and the songs that contain "cities" within the Custom 1 field.

I don't want songs that meet both criteria, because there are none. I want songs that meet one OR the other of the criteria. In a web query, this would be an OR query, with the results meeting one OR the other of the keywords searched for, instead of an AND query, which requires the results to match both keywords searched for.

Is there a way for an auto-playlist to do an OR query of this sort?

For that use Use 'Contains' or 'Starts With' In condition of Advanced search/AutoPlaylists.

Is there any way to do a non-additive search, where it would be using an OR instead of an AND.

Example: create a playlist with songs that have artist name as "TMBG" or with titles that have "cities" in the custom 1 field.
