And I am back :)

I found out what MediaMonkey does.

Along with MP3TAG I always check and update my Tags (still a noob at scripts will leave MP3TAG soon as I master MM scripts)

But here's what happens:

With MP3 files MM writes to the " RATING MM " tag when I rate songs by clicking on the 5 stars within MediaMonkey
and for FLAC files... It writes to the " RATING " tag of the FLAC file

Downside for me.. the RATING MM field ranges from 0 to 5 with increments of 0.5 (half a star), and the RATING field ranges from 0 to 100 with increments of 10 (with 10 being half a star rating)

In my library it is rated 5 stars... but when I look at its properties in MP3TAG nothing is there... Rating only saved to the database and not the file

P.s. Downloaded MediaMonkey 3.2.5 will install when I return home from work.
I've just downloaded and rated your file in MediaMonkey. Checking the tags with mp3tag shows the rating. Seems to be working fine.

keep in mind vorbistag 'rating' doesnt contain . or , and using values from -1 till 100 , 'rating mm' multiplied by 20. so rating 4 in mm means rating 80 in vorbistag.
and using mp3tag > if u remapped tagfields, the original fields aint shown in extended tag view (the mapped ones r shown)

Go to the Library > Files to Edit > Unsynchronized Tags node, select all files and use Tools > Advanced Tag Management > Synchronize Tags.

Here's one FLAC file I been working with

In my library it is rated 5 stars... but when I look at its properties in MP3TAG nothing is there... Rating only saved to the database and not the file

You might also want to upgrade to MediaMonkey 3.2.5.

Maybe it is something specific to the files, could you upload a sample? It is working fine for me.

Nope, it doesnt alter or change the FLAC files.

I just tried it again.... on a FLAC song with no rating... and I gave it 4 stars stars...
Then I tried it on a FLAC song that I manually rate on MP3TAG (gave it 5 starts in mp3tag) and in Media Monkey it saw the FLAC song as 5 star... but in MediaMonkey i changed the rating to 4.5 stars..

The 4.5 was not written to the FLAC file, it remained a 5 star.

After I gave those two tracks a rating, I then decided to "save then" (Select them and the ctrl+s) .. did that and check the tracks again with MP3Tag and still not written to the FLAC files :(

I think it is only saving to the database, because when I exit Media Monkey and restart it, the files have the ratings i gave them, but it isn't written to the FLAC file itself.

P.s. nohitter151 yes i did right click extended tags in Mp3Tag , i have that field visible "RATING MM" or %RATING MM% in this case.

Bellow is a screen shot of my settings

Update FLAC Files When Editing Tags.

by anonymust » Sun Oct 30, 2011 7:06 am

For some reason when I rate my FLAC audio files in Media Monkey (version 3.2.2.1300), it doesn't write the rating to the FLAC file its self.....
But if I rate an MP3 file, it writes this rating to the MP3 file..

Why is this?

At times I have to manually edit the rating of the file with MP3Tag, and write its rating myself.

I have the "write to tag" options checked in:

Menu: Tools > Options... > Library > Tags & Playlists

I have both boxes checked for :
  • Update tags when editing properties
  • Modify timestamp when updating tags
Please help me out! Most of my new audio files are now FLAC, and I wont be going back!
