iPod Touch and iPhone sync required QuickTime and thus the dependency. Renaming/removing d_iphone.dll fixes the issue as well as it removes the iPod Touch/iPhone support. The problem for most is that QuickTime doesn't uninstall itself fully.

First, I LOVE MediaMonkey!!
Second, I am very glad to find this thread because I too just experienced MM splash showing up and immediately disappearing.

I installed the latest QT and now my beloved monkey is working again.

I had just started uninstalling some apps because my hard drive is running low on space. I didn't uninstall QT, but I did uninstall Apple Software Update and Apple Application Support. I don't use QT, I don't use apple products, so I thought this would have no impact.

What I would like to know is, WHY IS MM SEEMINGLY DEPENDENT ON HAVING APPLE SOFTWARE INSTALLED, such that it will not operate at all without QT installed or even listing it as a prerequisite in order to run at all?

Thanks to all those who uncovered an easy fix to this problem.

I'm not entirely sure how things are with 4.0.6, but older versions did require QuickTime for iPod/iPhone sync. A corrupted QuickTime install would then cause issues and this often happens when it gets uninstalled.

I'm afraid iTunes is well and truely installed, all 10.6.1.7 of it.
Why does Quicktime affect my iPod ?

You should try reinstalling QuickTime instead of renaming d_iphone.dll. Also as Nohitter151 said you'll need iTunes to be installed to sync with an iPod Touch.

Your problem is that iTunes is not installed. iTunes must be installed in order for MM to communicate with any iPod touch, iPad, or iPhone device.

UPDATE: I tried renameing the dll and it has enabled me to open MM but as I suspected I now can't see my iPod Touch. :(

I'm having the same problem. I upgraded from MM3 to MM4 and after a bit of reorganising a few albums and syncing with my Ipod, MM now won't startup, just the flashscreen then nothing. Unlike the others I haven't uninstalled iTunes, I wasn't intending to. But I am syncing with an iPod Touch so I presume I can't rename the d_iphone.dll to d_iphone.dll.off ?

I was going to try reinstalling MM but it sounds from others in this thread as though that isn't going to fix it....and I don't want to loose all my playlists yet again.

When traces of Apple software are left this can happen. Running a registry cleaner can fix this sometimes. Renaming d_iphone.dll avoids the problem, but requires to be done on each upgrade.

I too did the same system purge/cleanup of apple related software and ran into the same issue. Did the above suggested fix, and it worked fine. Any idea why this causes a crash/failed startup?

"Try renaming d_iphone.dll to d_iphone.dll.off in the Program Files\MediaMonkey\Plugins folder. Does it resolve the issue?"
This worked worked for me also.

I had upgraded from MM3 to MM4, and it worked OK. Then after I did some house cleaning (uninstalled some apps including some Android remote control software), MM4 would no longer load. I'd see the splash screen, then it would dissappear and the MM process would stop.

Thanks!

I never got a reply from Media Monkey, so I uninstalled and reinstalled MM, then followed the advice lowlander gave in a subsequent thread -
"Try renaming d_iphone.dll to d_iphone.dll.off in the Program Files\MediaMonkey\Plugins folder. Does it resolve the issue?"
This worked.

Lowlander, I did what you suggested. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. jmedemar, you don't need itunes or any apple software for Media Monkey.

You can send a debug log to support for this so they can see what is causing this: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=69
