(I used to be able to set ratings manually on a Creative Zen - don't recall the model - but never knew how to get the ratings from MM over to the player. So I thought maybe this player might also be able to display ratings, but it doesn't look like it.)

Thanks for the responses.

I guess part of what I was wondering is, more generally, whether the rating is stored as a tag in the track itself or only in the MM database file.

It is saved as a tag for most file types, see the help file for more info.

Ah, I see that it's a problem with the device. The device doesn't display any ratings.

Does your device only display ratings, or are you also able to set them?

Have you ever seen a programm, syncing your rating?

What type of media you are syncing?

I can only say, this works for me with MM and my sansa clip+ in MTP mode (MSC does not work).
Anyway the rating is transfered separate - the information in the MP3 tags seems not to be used.

So you're saying that your device can display ratings but they don't show them after you've synced tracks using MM?

I have a new Sony Walkman E354 that I can send tracks to using MediaMonkey. Unfortunately, the files get stripped of the ratings I made in MediaMonkey.
Is there a way to preserve the ratings on transfer?

(I've also been playing around with Winamp as an alternative to MediaMonkey because it seems that it is not possible to create and manage playlists for this particular device using MediaMonkey. I can transfer tracks to the device in MM, then go into Winamp to add those tracks to playlists on the device that I have previously created in Winamp. It would be easier to just do everything in Winamp at this point, but Winamp does not display ratings the same way as MM. Whereas MM allows 1/2 stars, Winamp only allows full stars. Winamp also doesn't have a field for conductor and certain other tags, which is one of several other reasons I would like to just use MM if possible.)

If it matters, I am running Windows 7, and the device connects in MTP mode.
