Excellent points all. Regarding the album covers, when I ask friends why they use CD rather than switch to MP3 or another format on their computer, they say that they like to [i]have[/i] the CD, to look at it and look at the artwork etc. This is why it's important to improve artwork handling in MM.

As one of our [i]unofficial [/i]national anthems, it seems to be remarkably well known outside of Australia - which probably means there's too many rogue Aussies running around the world landscape :) One thing though, you're more likely to leave it in a "billabong", than a bog 8)

Being slightly oblique ( I can you know! :D ) the other downside to J River software is doing a search on your hard drive. Type in River and you get a zillion files containing the term river such as driver. Ditto the registry. Oh....such a painful task.

Now if you type in Monkey the search pain is over in seconds. I can't imagine Microsft naming a driver Monkey!

what ? media junk box is still around i thought that thing was tossed in the trash years ago like version 8 when i left from there. and have not looked back. the help in j.rivers forum is not there from the developers and if you even mention another player your tossed to the ignore lists and if you say something bad about it your out of the forum. thats what it was like when i was there. sucks i even made audio visual effects for them but when they were sent in like they asked be done. the way to make them was changed in the next update. and i had to remake them again, which then was also changed again the next update. and the av's were never added in for use. unless you were being paid to make them. so the ones users sent in were tossed in the trash bin. that treatment when i figured it out. was the main reason i came to mediamonkey at that time monkey was just starting under the name mediamonkey they were not getting much downloads under the old songs database name. so they changed it. and it was by far better then the j.rivers program that was being updated every 3 to 7 days cause they could not get the thing correct. i use to be an fan for them as much as i am for mediamonkey. when i left them i switched to just as big of none user of j.rivers as they have ever had. if i could find a way to remove all my posts i did for them around the web 9 years ago i would remove them? only can hope the sites i had them on have reformatted and removed them for me.
mediamonkey/ rusty and jiri when i got here took my first skins with no complaints they were glad to get some user created stuff. I've been at it ever since. sure they might get a little sick of my name in the forum from time to time but I'm trying to cut back. at least I'm not in this forum 18 hours a day like i use to be. I'm down now to 15 hours :lol: not really just a couple times a day i come in to help if i can. so there is no way for me that j.rivers can compete with mediamonkey. 8)

Dypsis. If you like all singing and dancing then River Media Center is the one. Media Jukebox - free - is better for the purists. There's just too much going on with Media Center 13. 3D album covers which don't really work - another spin off from itoons. Links to various web sites such as Wiki,Google,AllMusic. It also stores photographs and videos and plays the latter. Lots of different types of lists such as album, artist, artist album, now playing, last played and goodness knows what else. I don't like the stupid new version which shows for example: "Desire [b]By[/b] Bob Dylan" Who wants a[b] BY[/b] on every album whatever happened to: "Desire - Bob Dylan"

And I detest the layering/fanning of sleeves in some of the views. What is the point? They should be there as a quick instant visual refrence - like Monkey. If you have to mouse over to watch them change it defeats the objective.

There are fewer hacks/scripts to change the functionality - unlike monkey.

As I said earlier it offers too much for those who are mainly interested in music. The skins are also very dated. And of course the size and memory footprint are much larger.

My thoughts exactly.
It just doesn't do things well enough for me.

I tried Songbird, but in my opinion, it has a long way to go to reach a standard that I would find acceptable. And the playlist/ play queue is really dodgy.

You just cannot compare it with the much more mature and refined MediaMonkey.

Foobar is probably MM's biggest competitor, as both programs are targeting the power user. While some people are saying that WMP is a competitor, I don't believe it is. It's a user-friendly program that does the bare minimum, so it is obviously targetted at people who don't want to / are unable to learn a program like MM.
