Portable install of beta MM4.1.0.1630 works OK regarding above issue for me. I started MM several times and it appears to start OK every time.
I did not dig deep into the real cause, but this portable version starts OK from D, and previous release version from C drive does not.
I can use it now.

Excuses about alpha blending being improperly processed because of outdated graphic drivers also don't hold the water, since I upgraded to new graphic driver at least 5 times since MM v4.0 and same thing is happening all the time (so first time after computer restart MM usually starts OK (not exactly always!), but second time is never successful).

I'm using WinVista (updated to latest version and service pack with auto update), laptop Toshiba X200-21K (Geforce 8600M SLI v310.90 driver), upgraded to 240GB SSD, 4GB RAM, 750GB secondary HDD, Audio card is RME FireFace 800,
Only thing I can say is to raise support ticket, supply LOG file as described in http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ?f=7&t=341 and I'll try to help you whatever I can. Please note that in 99% of cases we have found that Graphic errors and artifacts are related to custom settings/apps/drivers user used on their system that change normal Windows API and DirectX rendering of windows. Also in most cases issues were with nVidia GPUs and ATi issues were due the driver issues in not just in MMW (they really need to fix that as I'm fan of ATi and its benefits over nVidia).

i know you are not going to like my answer but i have to say it anyway. i'm just a just a user. and i did see on the TV, back before win7 release the MS Spokesperson saying in a news confrenc.. that " We have decided To stop Updating windows Vista and Release Win 7, two years Early. Because we just can not fix all the errors in Vista".

so maybe you found one of the issues vista has that can not be fixed.?? and since MS abandoned vista its bound to have some issues in this year.

that being said then the only thing i can say to help here is to go in to the bug reporting forum room and to the message how to report a bug, and get the 3rd party debug viewer and install it and run it then run or try to run mediamonkey until the issue is viewed in mediamonkey then close mm and then save the debug report close the debug viewer and send the report in an email to the email address in the support section at the top of this forum page.

because i do have mediamonkey working on all my xp pro computers here. granted it is mm 3. but i do have the beta mm 4 here and it seems to work like it should only a few gui display bugs on my system they don't seem to get fixed.

I'm having the same issue with MM not starting and 'Unable to Replace Image' error MsgDlg. This is present in WinVista since MMv4 and it is so annoying that I barely use MM since then, because I'm HW/SW developer and I have many opened programs and documents which I need to find and reopen after each restart...
After clicking 'OK' on above mentioned msg, I got another 'Error during player initialization' msg.
I disabled full skinning, and situation is the same.
After changing display color settings to 16bit MM started (I tried with non-skinned version), but it is still not working...
So many errors about db and some missing items...

Did anybody actually manage to use this buggy piece of sw?

I've been getting this error quite consistently any time I try to start up MM after having closed it previously. A system reboot clears up the problem, as it seems to do for everyone else, but that's an annoying work-around, not a solution. I have just installed the debug version and submitted several debug report. Hopefully there is something helpful in there.

I'm also about to install the latest NVIDIA drivers, but in the past doing so hasn't helped. If I see improvement from that, though, I will let you know.

Just received the "Unable to Replace Image" error as well on version 4.0.6.1501. I am running Windows Vista Business SP2 32-bit on an HP xw6600 Workstation with 4gb ram. I just loaded the latest video driver from HP for this system that was dated 4/11/2010 version 8.17.11.9754. Debug log was sent as well.

I am using a fairly current and capable video care ( ATI Radeon HD 5770 ). This appears to be the same video card that one of the other users that was having the same issue was using. I have downloaded and installed the latest video drivers/software. This "Unable to Replace Image" problem has still not gone away!!! The only time that I can run MM is after a reboot. I would be more than happy to go back to MM 3, but it no longer supports album information web lookups.

Any suggestions?

Plain WinXP without any Third Party Themes (uxtheme.dll patching)?
Is this happening in XP only, any way to test on some Win Vista/7 PCs?

I have been having the same problem for months. Thought my database was corrupted, until I removed the splash and saw the "unable to create image" message, which led me here.

I could not get a debug file as first reboot solved the problem. Video card is a radeon 5770 with latest drivers. Only thing I can contribute to is to confirm that this problem is well alive with latest MM4, be it as an upgrade or a clean install : I completely wiped off MM3, db, scripts, settings and even registry entries before removing the splash and getting there as a result.

Guess this won't help a lot; thought I'd just bump the thread and maybe trigger some more attention to what looks like a pretty big turn down on MM4. I'll make sure to capture a log whenever I revert to MM3 and give MM4 another try.

XP SP3, core i7 on x58 mobo, no firewall or anti virus.

Roger.

Hi all,
99% of Cases with this error is related to Alpha blending not being correctly set by by outdated Graphic Card Driver.
Can you please Upload GPU info using GPU-Z (Upper right corner)

See example of my screenshot where it is clearly shown that I use driver from March 2012 (12.3):

ViceVersa very likely isn't causing it since it wasn't running.

I do not run security software. The drive seems to be fine. My guess is that it has something to do with the os (winxp) having been forced in uptime for too long.
