Re: Does MM support gapless playback?

I'm not aware of any real difference in LAME tag vs other encoders. The mp3 tag, also known as ID3 (ID3v1, ID3v2 ...) contains the song's information like title, artist, length... is the same format for all encoders. Only the music data is different. It's not the ID3v2 'metadata' tags we're talking...

Re: Some ID3v2.4 are unsupported/unused

I personally think this is pretty low on the 'must have' scale. Anyway, this is likely a 'feature request' and not a bug report for MediaMonkey.

Re: Some ID3v2.4 are unsupported/unused

FYI. The following tags have been wedged into the 'de facto' standard ID3v2.3, as well as the DOA ID3v2.4, thanks to Apple and iTunes: Title Sort Order = TSOT Artist Sort Order = TSOP Album Sort Order = TSOA Album Artist Sort Order = TSO2 Composer Sort Order= TSOC Mp3tag was updated last year to sup...

Re: ID3v2.4

FYI, here is my old reply on why I personally don't think ID3v2.4 is 'superior': http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=28380 The current keepers of the aging http://www.id3.org site are at least aware: "While there are legacy and future standards for ID3 tags, the most popul...

ID3v2.3: The 'de facto' MP3 tagging standard

chrisjj, this updated '2.4' proposal of the ID3 informal standard was not well received (in late 2000) and was basically abandoned. In fact, it wasn't even added to the standard reference ID3 library code: http://id3lib.sourceforge.net As I've stated before, MP3's ID3 pseudo-standard sucks in all fo...

jiri, Explorer shell (Vista) & the latest version of foobar2000 also use semi-colon as a separator in the UI now. You are not alone. Go ahead and support user configurable UI separators, though, if that will make everyone happy. But I prefer the "keep it simple" and "keep in consi...

Read the rest of my reply. It works as I expect it... the metadata (the stuff after the semi-colons) is indeed written.
I think your problem is based on MediaMonkey treating ";" as a reserved UI delimiter/separator.
You obviously want MediaMonkey to change the UI design.

This is how Microsoft designed it, at least back to 2003. WMP 11 follows that. I personally agree with single Album Artist entry logic. ...

I just tested on the latest release, and it seems to work fine. I think your problem is based on MediaMonkey treating ";" as a reserved UI delimiter/separator. For WMA, MediaMonkey stores the multiple entries as discrete tag entries in the WMA container. XP Explorer doesn't read them (by d...

; is used in the MediaMonkey UI to separate discrete names in a field. This is defined by MediaMonkey; it has nothing to do with tagging standards directly. It's pretty common, though. e-mail program address lines, Windows Explorer shell/Vista, WMP 10/11, etc. For MP3, when storing multiple names in...

jiri, it seems with the change... MediaMonkey splits MP3 Album Artist, too, using the internal "/". Album Artist can only be a single name, by design, in either MP3 (TPE2) or WMA (WM/AlbumArtist) in WMP 10/11, Explorer shell, etc. So, when WMP 11 sees a "/" in ID3v2.3 Album Artis...

The "/" is a reserved character to separate the names for ID3v2.3 for at least the Artist, Composer, etc. That's how it's intended to be stored per the standard. So, because of this... you can't use a slash in the actual tag without MM splitting out the individual names. Well, with the exp...

By design, Microsoft expects Album Artist to be a single entry. It will ignore additional entries stored in WMA containers for WM/AlbumArtist if some application happens to write them. (Personally, I agree with this design decision.) FYI: For MP3 ID3v2.3, TPE2 (equiv. Album Artist) will be read &quo...

You do realize you can change the tree view, right? Add in "Artist" instead of "Aritst & Album Artist"...
