I totally agree with that transcoding should be avoided whenever possible. However in this case transcoding mp3pro to mp3 does make sense, because the quality degradation will probably be much harder to notice compared to lower quality playback of mp3pro files on a player which only plays mp3. So, I...

Re: Duplicate songs by the same artist

is there a way to have a single song be stored and have it be linked to every album it is on in my collection?? I think this has been requested, but I'm not sure if it's gonna actually make it into any new MM version. At the moment, I use ratings to populate the playlists for playback and then I as...

Sure MM can convert FLAC to mp3. FLAC is "better" than mp3 in the sense that FLAC is simply in a different league. FLAC is lossless and exactly the same quality as original WAV. mp3 is lossy and its quality varies with either CBR bitrate or with VBR quality setting. mp3 quality also depend...

by the way, I think this should work too:
simply select multiple tracks and then press "shift-enter" to edit "multiple properties" -- and edit the folder name.

(Auto-organize has an advantage in that it can move not only music files but also any accompanying files in the folder.)

Use Auto-organize and edit the mask something like "C:\..new path...\<filename>

Maybe you also will find the option <path:X> useful for the above mask. Read the help how to handle it.

Well, then I'd suggest you check Options - tags&Playlist - "Update tags when editing properties" ---> disable it. This should prevent MM from changing anything in the tag in the file. (But then afterwards should you ever want MM to update tags you would have to use menu command "s...

MM is ripping CDs only digitally. (just as all other half-decent cd-ripping programs)

This is very weired. Which version of MM are you using?

I've got 2.5.5.x and it doesn't do what you saying.

What do you mean by MM re-tagging?
Are you auto-tagging from Amazon maybe?

Perhaps you could try first copying the tracknumber to another tag field (to a custom field or some other unused text field) and then use Autoplaylists based on that field. To copy tracknumbers use one of the scripts. The old script by Steegy - I think you would have to edit it a little to suit your...

MM "internal" playlists are stored in the database. Did you keep your database file? (usually it's Mediamonkey.mdb) Most important preferences are stored in the ini. Some preferences (e.g. GUI related stuff) are stored in the windows registry, so these are gone after re-install. Where were...

In the file-monitor options there is a checkbox "remove unavailable tracks". I think it should be activated (if it's not active already.)

Well, I did go ahead and voted for MM.

However, on a closer look that poll may be in fact rather meaningless.
Just check the actual votes: a lot of the "votes" are spam with random ratings.

Re: mp3 pro

every MP3 player I've had for the past five years has played MP3 Pro! Isn't it because when a portable player plays mp3-Pro file it really plays only its "ordinary mp3" part and ignores the "Pro" (SBR) part? IIRC that's how it is. Then one can achieve the same result with just o...

Re: duplicate files because of playlists.

the problem is i now have duplicate files. and if i am going to have for example four playlists with all of my tunes on, then i will have every song twice. Could you say more specific where are the duplicates located, in which path (on the player). You say there are only two duplicates even though ...
