I just deleted 3 albums (31 tracks) from MMW. Then I synced my Android phone (content on SD card) over wifi, but the "deleted" tracks are still on the phone. After a bit of Googling, I found that I needed to tick a box in the MMW device options to remove deleted tracks (which seems strange...

Well after leaving it connected overnight, the spinning wheel finally stopped. Still no joy with the USB syncing (the latest tracks still don't sync). BUT.... the wifi syncing seems to have worked, including the missing tracks. So rather than spend more time on the USB thing, I'll just use the wifi ...
