Re: MM in network: best choice of hardware/software?

I am a sort of network user. Several XP computers, 1 MAC All music is on NAS drives (4 now) Whole system is wired EXCEPT from the (single) PC that does the streaming to multiple Airport expressii Thus system is a network but there is only 1 MediaMonkey user (hence "I am sort of a network user&q...

Re: ripping analog media

I asked a few months ago and no one thought it was easily doable, so it's time to ask again: I just want to catalogue my vinyl records in MM, ie have the library info for the vinyl in MM. I would then be able to search MM for a particular album or track in my Vinyl and/or CD collection. I do want to...

Re: Just curious

Thanks and a possibly related question

I am trying to set up MM for friend on a laptop with a single, large USB drive for music storage.

Should this scenario work or is there going to be some issue with every time the USB drive gets unplugged from the computer?

Thanks

Re: Web Auto Tag Help

I am not an expert on MediaMonkey inner workings but: Sounds like you MediaMonkey database is read only - you need to be able to write to it. Locate the MM.DB - see Help on backup in Mediamonkey for location. Back it up in case you have not recently Right click on the MM.DB file and look at attribut...

Just curious

I needed to reformat a network associated storage device (NAS). I did so. I loaded Mediamonkey and the files (previously playable) were "grayed out". I expected this. I then put back all of the exact same data in the exact same directory structure on the reformatted drive. Drive label and ...

Re: MM output

1) From your soundcard to an audio device - wired
2) Stream to Apple Express - works well, wirelessly
3) From your PC's USB to a USB input on a DAC -> audio device. USB length should < ~ 10 feet

Re: Streaming Via Wireless

Get an Apple Airport Express ("AE")- ~$100.00 Get Eric Milles software - ~$25.00 (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia ... kers.shtml) This will allow you to stream music from MediaMonkey to the AE The AE has adequate analogue output or a digital output for a DAC as desired I (ads sever...

Re: Remote control Infrared or WiFi

I am not sure this is what you are looking for but I have placed Mediamonkey on my desktop and use a small laptop to remotely control the desktop (via VNC). This gives me virtually all of the functionality of Mediamonkey although I am slightly limited by the smaller window size of my laptop compared...

Re: Anyone Out There Ever Ripped Vinyl & Tape?

It is in current subscription issue (and presumably at newsstands) I think and will probably not be on there website for a month or so Looks to be gigantic hassle as you have to 1) Do it real time 2) Create your own "breaks" between songs 3) Do all of the tagging MANUALLY For LP's you give...

Re: Network Library

Consider a NAS drive - cost can be ~ $150.00 for 1 TB. if you shop around

That way both machines can access the NAS drive, simultaneously. I have done this with FLAC files and there are no performance issues

Re: Sending music only to receiver

-Soundcards as above will -PC-> USB DAC arrangement is workable BUT the USB cable should be < 15' long, requires a DAC and I am unsure what happens to other PC sounds , ie where do they go Logitech supposedly has a streaming device but I have not seen it Slimdevices allows streaming but cannot use M...

If you want to go high end, sound wise (and this is clearly not a project you want to do again), this month's Stereophile Magazine has an article re: ripping vinyl.

Re: My DB Backup

Lyrics are stored in the TAG and not in the MM database aren't they? I actually looked at a couple of FLAC files with a HEX editor and it appears blank space is allocated for lyrics and comments. But this would not effect the MM database would it? Also,I have 37,000 tracks. Should my database be 50%...

My DB Backup

I have ~ 2500 CD's in MediaMonkey. I am faithful re:backing up my database (WIN XP PRO), C:\Documents and Settings\Robert\Local Settings\Application Data\MediaMonkey\MM.DB I have added ~ 250 CD's in the last week to the library but the MM.DB size is unchanged at 129MB. Date on MM.DB is today (last d...

Works great.

How would a mere mortal have figured that out, ie where could I have learned how to do that?

Thanks
