Convert FLAC

Post by cadmanmeg »

Will MM convert FLAC files somehow? I understand that FLAC is or was a better format than mp3, but not fully supported yb all mobile media players, correct? Is there one software that is free that is better at converting FLAC files to other formats than other pieces of software out there? Thanks much.

Sure MM can convert FLAC to mp3.

FLAC is "better" than mp3 in the sense that FLAC is simply in a different league. FLAC is lossless and exactly the same quality as original WAV.
mp3 is lossy and its quality varies with either CBR bitrate or with VBR quality setting.

mp3 quality also depends very strongly on the encoder.
MM using LAME mp3 encoder -- very good quality encoder, but a little bit slower encoding.

If you got MM Gold, you can keep the files on your PC in FLAC format and convert them on-the-fly to MP3 format during the sync process, using the Auto-Conversion feature.
