single songs shared by multiple albums

What do you all think is the best way to handle individual songs that occur across more than one album? For example, I have a lot of Mannheim Steamroller's work, and one of their albums may reuse three tracks from each of three different albums. Do you think the best approach is to assign tags according to the first album on which the track appeared, and then create a playlist named for each other album on which that track appears and just copy the track into those playlists?

i have the same group and more likely the same albums.

i just went by rule of thumb if chip changed the song on one album a little bit. i let it on the album and called it by the same name with the number 2 behind it so i know at a site which version of the song it is.

if he just added the same song on different albums i only put in the song i did not have from the second album
and did not keep it the filled album no need for me to keep exact duplicates of the songs, i'm not a record company hostorian. :)

if you ever want to play the whole album you can make a playlist of just that one album and add the songs in the proper line up then on the playlist.
which is what they do when the make the new albums they just make a list of songs they have in their storage
and burn the album they don't keep mulitple copys of the excat same songs either. :)

It depends on the user. I think its best just to keep all of the files - even if it means you have duplicates. Erasing files from some albums just creates too many problems.

Whereas I choose to delete the duplicates from compilations, singles and soundtracks (in that order). So the main album will always have the track, if I don't have the main album, the soundtrack will have it, etc. The only time I keep a "duplicate" of a track is when it's included in a mix. It's not really a dupe then as it's been remixed to fit within the context of the mix, hence why I put duplicate in quotes.

Other programs allow you to link single tracks to multiple albums. Unfortunately, MM isn't one of them.
