In the Tools->options->Confirmation Menu is an option "Confirm rename operations that exceed 64 CD character limit"
Does this imply there is rename function?
If there is not a function per se, is there a workaround that would let one do batch renames?
Thanks

Re: Batch rename
Rename what? If you are talking about filenames or locations, you can use Auto Organize. If you are talking about other fields, highlight tracks that you want a specific field changed to the same thing, input the desired value for that field and click on the check box next to it in the properties dialogue box and then it will put that value in the field for all the highlighted tracks. Ifit is something else, someone might know of some scripts that might do what you are requesting, but you should give more detail about what you are trying to accomplish.
Re: Batch rename
Tools > Auto-Organize Files is the feature that can batch rename folder/file names based on the songs tags.

Re: Batch rename
I have some songs that are something like
c:\MyMusic\Various Artists\The Best of 1960-70's Rock Around the Clock\01 the Best of 1960'-70's Rock Around the Clock - You Aint Nuthin' But A Hound Dog - Elvis Presley.FLAC
That would easier to deal with (easier to view in the views etc as
c:\MyMusic\Various Artists\The Best of 1960-70's Rock Around the Clock\01 You Aint Nuthin' But A Hound Dog - Elvis Presley.FLAC
Thus I would like to a global rename of the ten songs in the album removing
the Best of 1960'-70's Rock Around the Clock - and substituting with a space

Re: Batch rename
Assuming the files are tagged appropriately, you'd just need to select the files, go to Auto-Organize, and enter a mask like this:raharris wrote:I have some songs that are something like

Code: Select all
C:\MyMusic\<Album Artist>\<Album>\<Track#> <Title> - <Artist>
After that, MM will rename and move the files accordingly.

Re: Batch rename
As Justin_f said, Auto Organize is what you need. Just highlight the tracks that you want renamed and right click or select tools and then auto-organize and you will be prompted for the mask (format) for the folders and filnames to be used. Select the mask that works best for you. The mask is the format for the folders and filenames based upon what is stored in the tag. The one Justin_f suggeted, handles your specific example, but there are almost infinite combinations. See help under auto-organize for a description of the various mask options for folder names or filenames.
