Music Explorer Tree

Postby LATaurus » Mon Jan 26, 2009 1:15 am

I apologize but I have a very basic question... have searched a little but am completely, completely overwhelmed here. Wow.... totally lost... I have never felt so dumb. :( :( :(

I have used MusicMatch Jukebox for many years and found it to be so easy and so intuitive. It's not supported anymore and I can't even get track titles etc from it, so I moved on to Media Monkey. I realize this is a much more advanced program but I am having such a hard time navigating it. Searches of the help sites produced all kinds of things I didn't understand... Image

ANYWAYS - what I want to know is:

Is there a way to make my screen show albums grouped together by titles, instead of showing every single track?

This is how my MusicMatch Juke Box used to look - a listing of albums, sorted by artist:

Image

I could "expand all" to show every track - IF I WANTED TO !!

.

CONTRAST WITH - this is how my MediaMonkey looks when I click on the "Album" folder of the "Music Explorer Tree." I can see every track. I don't want to see every track, I just want to see a list of albums.

Image

OR - looking at the left panel, I can see FOLDERS of all my artists, but if I want to see their albums I have to click on EACH AND EVERY artist to get the folders to drop down????? that's crazy, man............

There's a "collapse tree" button but no "expand tree" button.......... that just makes no sense to me at all.

Image

I installed some "tweak Monkey" widget which has not proven helpful.

Someone help me pleeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzze Image cuz I am not new to technology but I am feeling like a complete moron here.... Image

It's not exactly what you're looking for, but you might look into the "Show Album Art with Details" view.

EDIT: You might also look into the MagicNodes script. I believe you can set up a custom node that will list your albums like "Album Artist - Album"
Awaiting for 10160 & 10168 to be fixed/implemented before thinking of moving to MMW4.1 + MMA.

Perhaps I'm not understanding correctly, but wouldn't expanding the Album node give you what you're looking for? I'm not at home so I can't do a screenshot, but it would essentially be like this:

Code: Select all
- Album
     +Album 1 (Album Artist)
     +Album 2 (Album Artist)

And then clicking on one of the albums would show all the albums tracks.

Also, Mizery_Made is right, if you want a custom node, there are a couple solutions in the scripts forum.

Thank you Justin, actually what I want is an alpha listing of my artists, but with each album visible, like my first screen shot.

When I expand the Album Node I get an alpha listing of albums based on the album title. But, I want the albums to show up in the order based on the artist name.....

Mizery_Made - thank you for that suggestion, when I have some time to play with the Monkey a little more, I will look into that.

Anyone else?? :P Do any of the Monkey's developers read here? Can they tell me why there's no "expand the tree" button but there is a "collapse the tree" button? That is the one aspect of this that is driving me completely nuts. It just seems like it would be so easy to have a button for both of those functions... so why just one and not the other.... arggggggggghhhhhhh

This is a really nice concept and I would be happy to see something like this, but I doubt MM developers want to do that. Anyway, you could install the Magic Nodes script and try with the next mask:
Code: Select all
Album Artist - Album (Total Lenght)\<Album Artist with Album|Statistic:Sum(Length)>

If you want to expand any selected node and its child nodes, you could try my new script Expand Child Nodes.
Magic Nodes 4.2 (2011-07-01) RegExp Find & Replace 4.3 (2011-07-06)  Invert Selection/Select None 1.5 (2012-02-04)  Export M3Us/Create Playlists for Child Nodes 3.6.1 (2012-01-09)  Expand Child Nodes/Expand All 1.1.1 (2012-02-13)  Event Logger 2.4.1 (2012-02-06)  Filtered Statistics Report 1.5.1 (2009-10-09)  Track Redirection & Synchronization 3.4 (2012-10-08)  Restore/Synchronize Database 3.1.1 (2012-05-31)  Find Currently Playing Track 1.2 (2012-02-14)  Queue List 1.2 (2012-02-06)  Add to Library on Play 1.0 (2010-10-20)  Tree Report for Child Nodes 1.1 (2010-11-04)  Update Location of Files in Database 1.3.3 (2012-06-12)  Inherit Child Playlists 1.0 (2012-01-16)

MagicNode is way too complicated for average non-programer person.

I recommend the use of MonkeyRok script.
Intuitive and simple to use, it can list all albums by an artist in clickable/expand/link/play and usefull functions.
Skins for MediaMonkey: Cafe, Carbon, Helium, Spotify, Zekton. [ Wiki Zone ].

Eh, not really. The new version by ZvezdanD is very easy to use/set up now with its new GUI.

Yes, the new GUI version is great!
Advanced Duplicate Find & Fix Find More From Same - Custom Search. | Transfer PlayStat & Copy-Paste Tags/AlbumArt between any tracks.
Tagging Inconsistencies Do you think you have your tags in order? Think again...
Play History & Stats Node Like having your Last-FM account stored locally, but more advanced.
Case & Leading Zero Fixer Works on filenames too!

ZvezdanD:

No disrespect but for the average user Eyal is correct, Magic Nodes is complicated and intimidating. Until you released the GUI version I was not able to use MN but now I am because of the GUI and the samples. And although there were examples prior to the GUI version the syntax is still too complicated for some of us. All of us are not programmers. REGEX experts or SQL experts, we need assistance for those like you who have that type of knowledge.
