Post by schrodinger56 » Sun May 24, 2009 4:04 pm

Using MediaMonkey is it possible (like in iTunes) to set a file to 'Remember Playback Position' ?

No, that isn't possible yet though it is certainly a feature that could be added in future versions.

Thanks for the replies, I'm grateful. Being a complete computer novice and can just work out how to use the most basic of applications I was wondering if you could explain how to use the 'script' you mentioned?

Thanks

Go to Trixmoto's website: http://trixmoto.net/mm/

Find the bookmarker script. Click the MediaMonkey icon next to it to download the script file, then double click that downloaded file to install it.

Many thanks. I think I've done what you said correctly.

I downloaded the file to my desktop then installed it, I presume that was correct?

How do I know if it has been installed in MM?

Great many thanks. :D

So now when I load say an audiobook onto my Walkman (via MM) and start listening to it then after a while decide to listen to some music (on my Walkman) then return to the audiobook it will start where I left off prior to listening to the music tracks?

Update:- Sadly it doesn't work :(

Oh well it was worth a try.

No, as MediaMonkey can't order your walkman how to handle audiobooks it is different with each device and its Hardware.

So if I understand you correctly it isn't a MM issue it's a Walkman issue?

With iTunes you can "tell" each file (you transfer onto your iPod) to 'Remember Playback Position', perhaps this could be incorporated into future versions of MM.

Thanks

Yes you are right but iPods have dedicated file formats just for AudioBooks .M4B that are in fact fully handeled within ipod not by MM.

MM is fully capable to support playback Audiobooks in formats that are already played by MM (including M4B) and if you set Track genre to Audiobook it is handled that way so when you stop playing it and listen other library tracks in MM it will remember position where you stopped listening and will continue playback where you left it out. It looks that ipods and Creative players mostly have Audiobook support, others are so so.

From what I see it looks that players that support playback of proprietary Audible formats mostly have some if not all support for Audiobooks in other formats.

More info on AudibleReady Devices: http://www.audible.com/adbl/store/welco ... Center.jsp
Manuals of Audible Capable devices http://audible.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/aud ... faqid=3370 (Under Listening Tab)

and few CNet articles about MP3 Players and AudioBooks:

Device search on cnet: http://reviews.cnet.com/1770-5_7-0.html ... larity+asc

Note: I could Answer you all this in ticket you raised but It looks that No Newer Sony Devices are listed to support either Bookmarking or Audible format but I think it would be also interesting for other users that seek similar functionality.

BTW I want to thank you for rising this issue, I personally never thought Audiobook capable player and you made me re-think of my choices.

UPDATE: Are you saying that iTunes can sync same file to player/walkman (SONY?) with Audiobook capabilities.

hey all,

i read a post back in january 2009 when i got my iphone. This post mentioned that you could change an mp3's genre to Podcast and transfer it to the iphone, it automatically set the flag "remember playback position". I was using this for months, but all of a sudden it has stopped working. I cannot remember if i had made some config changes in itunes or media monkey or not. (I've rebuilt my computer).

I was able to transfer mp3's set as podcast genre using mediamonkey without having to open up itunes.

was this functionality lost in a new version of mediamonkey?

any help greatly appreciated.
