Burn CD Issue

Post by SatyrMage » Sun Oct 18, 2009 11:02 pm

I'm trying to burn an audio CD. The Disc Burn Wizard, on the Burn Settings screen, shows 'Write CD Text' option checked, but greyed out - and I am unable to turn it off.

When I attempt to burn, I get the error message "Disc 1 burn failed: Illegal Request: CURRENT PROGRAM AREA IS EMPTY, Error code: 52C04"

I would actually LIKE to have CD Text turned on, but I saw (while researching this) that the Knowledgebase suggests turning it off because many DVD Burners are unable to write CD Text (even though they read it fine). However, I can't figure out how to turn it off, or for that matter, if it's grey maybe it's already off by default (even though it shows checked)?

I'm running v3.1.1.1261 Gold

Screenshot of error is available.

I suggest you update to the latest MM beta version, most likely your issue will be resolved with the new burning/ripping engine:

I've more or less got the same problem, but in the German board...

...nobody seems to be able to help.

I want to burn my CDs with text. The hardware supports it, but I always only get there "track 1...track 2".

Shouldn't I wait until the next final version is released? With 1261 I have installed the last official version...

That's up to you. But certainly you aren't going to have any change in your problem if you keep the same version of MM installed.

I just burned the first CD with the new version, and I'm sorry to say, that I still got the same problem with the text. What else can I do?

More burning problems here.

Like i said on "Error when burning MP3 CD from platlists" thread.

"downloaded latest debug beta. No change.
I just want to burn an MP3 disc of the one artist with a folder for each album !
There must be other people doing this. It's not that weird.
Can someone help ?"

I didn't buy a Monkey for this...... :x

i'm still trying to understand what it is doing.
can you confirm this.

1. you insert cdrom
2. you click on mediamonkey to start it.
3. you click on a playlist you set up to burn and then click burn button
4. you then followed instructions on the burn panels.
5. the burn panel said burn finish.
6. the cdrom was removed, then put back in to the system.
7. then you checked with monkey to see in his directory tree what was on the disk?
8. all was there or all was not there. including cd text.
9. you closed mediamonkey and opened wmp or winamp or other media player to check and see
if the cdtext was there.

if it was in the others then you need to get the debug viewer from the debug instructions posted in the bug report forum, and run that the next time you burn the cdrom it will show every thing that goes on and will show if something in monkey causes the text to not burn.

if the cdtext did show in the other program did it show correctly.

10. if you wanted folders burned did you use the pathway url if needed? which on a cdrom would be no drive letter just the \artist\filename.mp3 and there should be a m3u file on the disc for it to be read by the other players.
is that all on the disk.

:o :-?

:)

oh one more thing.
if you have all the stuff there just missing the cdtext? try burnning at a slower speed.
same thing if you have nothing on the disc try the slower burn speed.

if your still getting nothing at all on the disc then check to see if the speed of the disk is too much for your burner
some cdroms marked music will not burn correctly at higher speeds. it will say it is all there but won't burn anything to do with a data disc. they seem to have changed the thickness of the chemicals on the disc's marked music so they only hold music in audio format. other then that data and music discs are the same only music disc's cost more. which is only for the riaa tax that is put on them.

To give a short answer: There are no m3u-files burned on my CDs

well on any data disc there has to be a m3u or other index type of file for the songs to be found if they are in folders.
the m3u should be the only file seen on the disc when you explore the disc then the folders are beside the m3u file.

the m3u file is to contain the local url of the songs. since it is on the disk it does not have a drive id on any of the urls. cause the urls point to the folders on the disk.

now if you are burning data cdroms for music that is a must have situation when using folders.

other wise all that will be there or should be there are the mp3 files or other format files you can hear on you cdrom player.

if in fact you see only cda files. on the disc when you explored it then you burned the audio cdrom.

if none of these or the previous posts are on working for you.
the only thing left is the debug report.

go to the debug forum and find the post on how to do a manual debug. you need to get a program called debug viewer set it up and run it with monkey and try to burn the cdrom it will grab all the info needed for them to see what is going on with your system and if they can fix it.

the only thing i can think of that might be doing it is if the cdrom is old and worn out. or has lots of dust on the lens and the burn light cant get to the disc but the play light can.
so get a cdrom drive cleaning disc and use that. maybe the simplest thing will fix it?

I now found a "very funny" solution for my problem:

If I burn a cd without break between the tracks, the cd-text goes well. If I burn it with this 2-second-break, it doesn't work! And if I choose the break, the options-button for cd-text is gray and cannot be used.

Has anybody an idea how to patch that?

I'll have to echo that one. Not sure why, but the 2 second gap causes no end of issues for CD text for me too.

I'm willing to collect some info for support, assuming we know what to feed them. :-)
