Audio levelling questions

Post by Leliel » Mon Oct 26, 2009 6:44 am

the preset for audio levelling is 89 db but i find this too soft. looking at my files i noticed most of them are reduced by -7 to 6db. does this mean they were softer than intended.
so is it fine to increase the preset to higher than 89 db at least until 95 so they are closer to my previous values. i also understand that some clipping might be expected. can anyone help me please. thank you

You can change it at Tools > Options > Volume leveling.

Just remember, leveling is supposed to make them all sound relatively the same loudness. It's not a great idea to use it to boost volume, per your clipping comment. It is also important to remember that the dB scale for sound is a logarithmic scale. For every 3dB incease you get approximately a doubling of the sound intensity and for every 3 dB decrease you get 50% of the sound intensity. You might want to try something closer to 92dB if you want to get some volume bang while minimizing the amount of clipping.
