Hey everyone.

This probably isn't the right section to post this into, but I'm not sure where it would go, so this will do! Lol!

Here's what I'm trying to do, which would be awesome if Media monkey can do it, but I haven't found anything on it yet.

I travel a lot and want my music where ever I go. I take my work laptop with me (which I'm not allowed to put masses of music on to!) so I'll take one or two albums with me, which I get bored of very quickly. I've been known to be away for several months at a time.

I don't really want to take my personal laptop with me as well, that would be a pain! I bought myself a USB powered hdd and put all my music on there, then I left the hdd on a train! Oops!

So my thinking was this: I create and host websites. I have a reseller hosting account with unlimited space and bandwidth. I thought it would be great if I could upload my music to a folder on my website then have Media Monkey stream media from my online collection.

I know I can use various tools to stream music over a network, but that involves me leaving my laptop turned on in order to stream (I'll re-iterate that I can be away for months at a time and leaving my computer on for this amount of time just doesn't seem practical!)

I've looked into other things, like MP3Tunes, which is a pretty cool idea...but how much?!?!?!?! My music collection is well over the 50GB mark and that could get expensive! Cloud hosting etc does seem to be rather expensive as a whole! But can I use my own website and media monkey to create a similar thing?!

I think you should be able. I've done something like that with MM 2.5, but never really got to testing it over the internet, but I think it can: http://webmonkey.flyinglowlander.com/

You'll need playlists with the internet path to the files and that should work. On the other hand you can consider storing your music online and then download to your PC what you want to listen to. Then when you're tired of it download some new music.

I had considered the download option, but it does seem a bit of a pain too! But perhaps I will have to resort to that eventually.

For now tho... Web Monkey looks VERY interesting. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll read up on that and see what I can do.

Hey...so back again!

I've downloaded the latest version of WebMonkey and have uploaded it to my website. I've also downloaded Media Monkey 2.5 and imported my music from Media Monkey 3.

Erm... what next? How do I install/set up WebMonkey?

Sorry...I've looked but haven't seemed to find any instructions.

Also, I've checked out the live WebMonkey site you've put a link to and I can't seem to get any of the songs on their to play, is that because you have turned the player off?!

Yes, the Live website has several features turned off as it would be illegal to allow people to download my music.

Start with the readme in the zip file and open settings.asp along to modify the settings. As you can see by the date it has been a while since it was created so I might struggle along as well to figure it out.

Who are you hosting with and how much bandwidth do you have at disposal for what price? I currently shopping around for a new webhost and I have been looking at IX webhosting and Godaddy to name a few. I would like to know who you chose, or are you hosting yourself?
