Art+Details View: Multi-disc albums not grouped together

Postby delavagus » Fri Jan 20, 2012 1:09 pm

Hey! So I just upgraded to 4.0.2.1462.

So far, so good, except for one thing. I have many multi-disc albums; I tag them so that the album-names are the same, and the discs are distinguished by using the "Disc #" field. The main reason I liked doing it this way was so that multi-disc albums would only take up one "slot" in Art+Details view. But in MM4, each disc has its own slot even though they share an album title. Can I change how Art+Details displays the albums?

Thanks!

What are you sorting on? Have you tried sorting on Album or Artwork?

More details: I sort the Art+Details page using "Path." (In my HD's file-structure, the album titles are proceeded by the year, so sorting by "Path" lists the albums in chronological order.)

If I sort by "Album," then multi-disc albums only take up one-slot. But I want to sort by "Path." One weird thing is that if I click the "Path" header, then the multi-disc albums collapse into one "slot" -- just the way I want them to show up -- but when I refresh the view (e.g., by select "All" again), then the multi-disc albums separate again.

For example. I have the following folder:

Cream\1966 - Fresh Cream\[tracks]
Cream\1967 - Disraeli Gears\[tracks]
Cream\1968 - Wheels of Fire\Disc 1\[tracks]
Cream\1968 - Wheels of Fire\Disc 2\[tracks]
Cream\1969 - Goodbye\[tracks]

If, with sort-by-Path as default, I select "All" in the file-tree, then each of these "discs" show up in their own slot (i.e., "Wheels of Fire" gets too slots), in chronological order. However, if I hit the "Path" header, then it lists them in reverse-chronological order -- BUT then "Wheels of Fire" takes up only ONE slot. (I can also hit "Path" again and it will list the albums just the way I want: chronological order, but with "Wheels of Fire" taking up only one slot.) But then, if I click on "All" again, "Wheels of Fire" goes back to taking up two slots.

Weird.

I can, of course, sort by "Year," which would solve my problem when it comes to looking at individual artist folders. But I'd like to be able to select a folder higher-up in the file-structure and have the albums appear in the order of the file-structure, not by "Year."

In short -- I want the Art+Details page to work the way it did in MM3. Is that possible?

I think it should split when sorting on Path as they're in 2 different folders.

They did not split using MM3. Is there anyway to undo whatever changed in MM4?

I have the same albums as you and also use a very similar file structure and this is my screen shot.

This is also sorted on path and selecting a higher level folder (in my case "C")

This was using MM 4.0.3.1464

Start by checking 1465 as this build has changes to sorting behavior.

For me I'd still expect the 2 discs to show separated as they're in a different folder. If you want the Album shown together you can still sort on Album or Artwork. The same I expect Album > Disc# sort to show 2 separate entries. Files should only be grouped on the same Album if the sort column value is the same for all files.

That's just how I want it to work! I upgraded to 4.0.3.1465, but no difference in how the albums are displayed. Here's a shot of my MM.

1st thing congratulations on getting a view like that with 1465 :D
I got viewtopic.php?f=6&t=64001#p328489 :(
Apart from the fact that I have got mp3 and yours are flacs I cannot see any difference in the tags so I have no idea :-?
One difference is that my filenames are i.e "Cream - Wheels Of Fire - CD1 - 01 - White Room.mp3"
(must had an anal moment when I did those - they are normally just <artist> <track#> <title> )
However I cannot see any reason why that should affect the grouping?
