Start with a new database, but back up the old one

Post by ashenkin » Tue Feb 14, 2012 2:43 pm

I'm sure this info is out there somewhere, but i haven't been able to find it. regardless, apologies in advance for posting such a basic question.

I want to start my mediamonkey database anew. It has my music scattered across various permutations of the Music library in windows 7, since i've been upgrading since windows xp, etc. I've sync'ed all the tags to the tracks. Now, I'd like to backup my current database, and then start a new one by scanning in all the tracks. Any hints about how to go about doing this?

Thanks!

Close MM, move the MM.DB to backup folder, start MM.

hmm - which MM.DB? I moved the one in c:\Users\username\AppData\Mediamonkey , but then MM just "upgraded" my database. Where did the old MM store the DB? Perhaps it's reading from the old one now that i've moved the newer one...

You may have had MM3 installed. In that case you can use File > Clear Database.

yep - I found MM.DB in users\username\appdata\local\mediamonkey, and also an old db in the music\mediamonkey folder. good to go - thanks!
