Cannot burn CD's

I bought a new cake of CD's and have not been able to copy an album onto one so far. I choose as normal and the burning seems to go through O. K. with the 'copy again' window being displayed at the end. However, when I try and play the disk on the computer it won't - to be more precise I mostly hear nothing and the computer informs me that MM is not responding, but once it played the first note and then the first two notes and then the first three notes... and so on.

I thought at first that there must be some sort of manufacturing error with the disks so I took one to a friends house for him to burn - and he didn't have a problem (he is not using MM in fact he has an Apple). When I brought this disk back, MM played it perfectly. I also brought back a couple of blank disks which I burnt and played no problem.

Just to confirm further, I gave a disk to another friend with the same result. Once burnt it also played faultlessly on my computer.

I am now completely confused as it doesn't look as though it's the disks or my version of MM either as I managed to burn two other disks with no problems.

In sheer desperation I tried to burn a disk using Windows Media Center and this also failed. Can anyone suggest what the problem is and how I can rectify it please?

I am using the free version of MM, the OS is Vista. Thanks.

So are you saying the discs you burned with MM play fine on other PC's?

No. I must admit I never tried that, I just assumed they were gash and threw them away. I have one which I can try and will do that as soon as possible. I don't hold out much hope but, hey, I could easily be surprises seeing how strange it seems. Thanks for the idea, I will post the result as soon as I can.

I couldn't try a CD on another PC but I did try one on a CD player. It loaded as if it was going to play and then didn't. This is as I suspected it would be but I still don't have a clue what the problem is or how to fix it.

When I try to play this CD on my PC under MM, the CD drive picks up speed (so I presume it knows a CD is in there) but I never see the CD title or its contents within MM. - it is as if the CD just doesn't exist.

Maybe burning while capturing a debug log (step 4b) will show what is happening. Send the debug log to support for the developers to analyze: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=69

Lowlander, I downloaded DebugView and the debug version of MM, following the instructions in your link. I started DebugView and then MM and I burned another CD from the library. This went through normally and produced no debug output. I then tried to play this CD (with no results - it never registered in MM at all) and again no debug output was displayed. I there anything else I can try?

Make sure you installed the debug version and are running it. You may have to start DBGView as Administrator to see logs.

Thanks. Starting DebugView as the administrator sure makes a difference. I have burned another CD (same result), produced a debug log and created a tech support ticket to see if they can determine what is going on. Thanks for your help; I'm afraid this has all been a bit technical for me.

Have you tried to lower your burn speed, also screenshot of last step in burn wizard could help.
