One Database, multiple copies of collection

Postby datta » Thu Jun 28, 2012 8:14 am

I have a large library that takes many hours to add (150,000+ tracks, all legal) to the database.

I keep multiple copies of my collection in sync on multiple physical drives using robocopy. The collection is not available as a network share.

I would like to use a portable install of MM with a single database that is mirrored along with the collection to the second disk. Then I can plug that disk into whatever machine I like and immediately access everything. I don't want to re-scan the files on the copy.

I know I can copy the database and adjust the Medias table by replacing the SerialNumber of the disk on the copy to avoid re-scanning the music since I know it is all in sync but this is a bit of a pain to do.

Am I missing an easy way to handle this?

You can use File > Locate Moved/Missing Files which worked well for me or use: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=63823 from: http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... w_computer

Thanks for the pointer, the MM_HDDSerial.vbs script did the job but still took longer than I would like.

I wish that the primary key on the Medias table was IDMedia+SerialNumber, then I could have two drives point to the same collection and avoid all this nonsense every time I sync the drives.
