upgrade from 3.2 to 4

Postby oldfart » Sun Jul 15, 2012 1:52 am

Hi all, Im about to take the plunge, and I havent up until now because of my heaps of playlists, yes ive backed them up. Ive read that MM "should" retain all my settings, but as its such a pain to reinstate playlists can someone tell me if my playlists will survive the upgrade? Thanks

Yes of course. All the database info is retained, you just might lose some of your layout settings.

So . . . is it really worth it to upgrade? I'm afraid of a crash of some sort also. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I certainly think so. But I suppose it depends on what features you think are important. MM4 has added many new features like tabbed browsing, secure ripping, improved memory use, video support, new skinning capabilities, upnp/dlna, etc. that I couldn't live without, but if those aren't important to you, then MM3 might be good enough.

Thats why I havent upgraded before, MM3 does what I want, and there seems that some are having issues with MM4. I just dont want to get too many version behind and I would like Iphone support to sync my phone like it does my Ipod. Not everyone seems happy with Iphone support either, although I cant fault my ipod on mm3.

iOS 5 requires MediaMonkey 4 (latest release), Auto-Tag from Web requires MediaMonkey 4. MediaMonkey 4 has many bug fixes compared to MediaMonkey 3, but does have some bugs, especially related with iOS 5 as this is a new feature. Most other bugs seems superficial ie. interface and stuff and not problematic like file or tagging problems. Add video and DLNA support in MediaMonkey 4 and it is a worthy upgrade. Only those that require shared DB on NAS may want to stick with MM3 due to heavier SQL in MM4 slowing things down (only on network, local DB's are mostly faster in MM4).
