Tracks play for 10 seconds then skips to start of next track

Postby flacsnack » Thu Aug 09, 2012 8:39 am

Hi
I play files converted to flac by MM. However, alot of tracks play for about 10 seconds then skip to the next track. Always the same files.....
The files were origianlly WAV files ripped from my cd's that all played ok. If MM has corrupted my entire collection, I will not be impressed!! (around 850 cd's so far...)
Thanks for any advice you can offer.....

What's the file size of the FLAC file and what duration (length) does MediaMonkey show the file has? Did you maybe create previews instead of converting the files?

I'm also seeing a similar problem while playing WAV files. It occasionally skips to the next track after about 10 seconds. I have found that if I keep trying to play the track, it will continue to play. There does not seem to be any logic to when it decides to skip nor how many times you have to attempt to play the track to get it to continue. Most of my settings are default. Not much help other than to substantiate the problem exists.

I suggest you capture the skipping a debug log (step 4b) and send it to support while also offering a sample WAV file for which this happens: viewtopic.php?t=69

Your suggestion is appreciated but I could not get the link to go anywhere to see what the process is for capturing the debug log. A little more info...The machine I am using is running Windows 7 Ultimate. I checked the installation on another of my computers (Windows Vista) and it seems to be streaming from the Synology media server correctly without occasional skipping. Both appear to have the same option settings and are updated to the latest version (4.0.6.1501). I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling MediaMonkey but the condition still exists. If you don't mind, would you try and provide the link again? I would like to follow your suggestion. Thanks.

Here's the correct link:

Thanks, I've entered a trouble ticket with the debug file included.

Make sure you're not using Previews and that you aren't accidentally using the hotkey for skipping to next track (see Tools > Options > Hotkeys).

No Hotkeys, I don't touch the PC and no previews. Sometimes all is ok, and sometimes it plays correctly some files and suddenly on a specific file it skips after 10s but not all the time...
I use flac files ripped directly from CD with MM 4.0.7.1511 and Windows7. On an other PC with XP the same problem but even worse.
Same problem if it comes from a Fritzbox MediaServer or Synology NAS MediaServer.

You may want to switch Output Plug-in. The old waveOut plugin can be especially problematic.

Ok, I will play around with this. Actually I use default setting "MediaMonkey DirectSound output"

switching Output Plug-in and changing Output Plug-in settings did not help, but I noticed following:
- When playing from "My Computer" local drive or Network drive, then I have never the problem.
- When playing from Media Servers UPNP (the same flac files that work under "My Computer" Network drive), then the problem occurs sometimes on dual core PC with Windows7 and the problem occurs very often on a old single core Computer with XP (tracks play for some seconds and then skip to next song).
I don't think it is a problem of the media server then the same problem occurs with two different media servers (fritzbox 7390 and synology ds107+, both with last firmware update), and the problem does not occur when using vlc media player with the same media servers and the same old single core pc with XP.

Create a debug log (step 4b) for the failed UPnP playback and send it to support: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=69
