I can't get my MM to play m4a files. I thought Windows natively plays m4a's now, however I installed Quicktime anyway. Still to no avail...
I've tried searching the knowledge base and this forum and can't seem to find an adequate answer, and I can't seem to log onto their support, with my old account nor with a newly created account.
I have Windows 8.1 up to date, and MediaMonkey 4.1.3.1708. I recently had a computer die on me and I'm reinstalling MediaMonkey on a new machine. I'd prefer to remove Quicktime and not buy the addon if I could.
Anyone have any ideas?

The following discusses M4A support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/inde ... aac-tracks
Does QuickTime itself play the files?

I found that article - it doesn't tell you how to fix any issue.Lowlander wrote:The following discusses M4A support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/inde ... aac-tracks

Yes, Windows played it, and now Quicktime plays it. But not MM. Which leads me to believe its not my machine, but MM.
Re: M4A Files
Does it happen with all M4A files, could the files have DRM and do they still fail in MM after being played in QuickTime?
Also note MediaMonkey 4.1.4 is the latest release: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 82#p393882

These are ripped from CD's I own, and do not have DRM. I tried several, same issue.
I did not know about 4.1.4 - will download and try and let you know.

Then they may have something particular from the ripper. You could offer one to support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/inde ... ets/Submit

Well, I'll try offering.Lowlander wrote:Then they may have something particular from the ripper. You could offer one to support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/inde ... ets/Submit
Meanwhile, I upgraded MM in administrator mode and still no dice.
Also, I ripped these files nearly 10 years ago, MM hasn't had issue before. Its only that my desktop crashed that I am I even trying this. There is another laptop where it works just fine, although I had to install iTunes instead of Quicktime for the iPod support. I didn't want to install Quicktime, and wish to install iTunes even less - kinda why I'm even using MM.
This is fustrating - Not sure how I could have messed up my installs.

P.S. I'm able to submit a support ticket now, I will also try their ideas.

Re: M4A Files
Ok - as it turns out while I was preparing a response to customer support, I noticed on this particular file all the tags were wiped clean. (I hadn't noticed because before I had the folder displaying as general items vs music). I used MM to synchronize the tags to put what MM had back into the file. This then allowed the file to play, albeit corrupt.
I believe what happened was MM was going to edit a tag I made changes to (Lyrics) and it somehow got cut off, corrupting the file.
I'm unable to find another file with this issue, just yet.
I'm now thinking I could remove Quicktime safely - and all this was coincidence, bad timing, and me over reacting.
I wanted to let others know from my mistakes if they come accross this in the future.
