sort playlist not permanent

Regular playlist , if i sort a column ( filename is sorted A>Z) ,and then (right click > update play order) it is not remembered once i leave this list.
If i then drag some files into this list (on which the filename is sorted Z>A, ) i expect this order to reverse in the playlist.
Is this normal ?

1) Which version of MediaMonkey?

2) No, sorting doesn't persist for newly added files. Playlists are just a list of files, they don't contain field sort information.

But then, what is the use of ' update play order ' it suggests to me the order is 'saved" I can just click on the header to sort , no need for 'update'
Or am i missing something ?

Let me explain:I have a new device which plays files in the order copied.
so before synching i have to remember to get the ( audiobook ) filenames in the right order, which i forget sometimes.
So i thought to setup an autoplaylist ( in which you can set sorting) .
But, with an auto list one has to put criteria in place, which i don't have; i just drag the books into it.
So i resort to a regular list.

Sorting doesn't persist on Playlists unless you update the play order. This is so that users can sort as needed without affecting the Playlist order. As a Playlist may have no sort order it would be hard to restore.

Manually moving files on the Playlist does automatically update the Playlist.

I'll try to remember all these options...
Thank you for explaining this to me.

Note that you can create an AutoPlaylist with preferred sorting referencing a static Playlist. This way you can add any file you wish to the static Playlist and get it sorted as desired using the AutoPlaylist.
