Ripping CD over Remote Desktop Connection

Post by SteveBolton »

Using Windows 10 Pro Anniversary Edition on my home PC I use a remote desktop connection to it. I do this so that I can work my day job on employers PC and rip CD's on my machine as a background activity. (Both machines are on the same desk)

However CD ripping fails when there is a remote desktop connection active. Message is: mediamonkey is unable to decode this format

If I switch the monitor over to the home PC and try the rip again it works fine.
Ripping to MP3 CBR 320 - although I doubt that would make any difference.

It is a windows policy for remote access (of course). See https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Fo ... itpromedia

I guess media monkey is reporting the wrong error though. I would be helpful if it worked out that the drive had gone away :D

(You may have tried this already, so apologies if it didn't work for some reason...)

In the Remote Desktop Connection dialog box, do the following:
1. Select "Show Options" (dropdown in lower left hand corner)
2. Select "Local Resources" tab
3. In "Local devices and resources" pane, select "More..."
4. Ensure that the checkbox is checked that corresponds to drive you're using for CDs/DVDs.

You may also need to enable "Other supported PnP devices" (e.g., if your CD drive is a USB removable device).

You may find with this approach you won't have to navigate gpedit.msc, unless your system has policies configured, as the default is to not prevent remote drive redirection via a policy (i.e., leaving it instead up to the RDC dialog settings for each session).

Hope this helps.

Here what I used to fix the issue.
Right click on the rdp shortcut you want to edit
Click on the Local Resources Tab
Under Configure remote audio settings: Click on the Settings Button
On Remote audio playback select the Play on remote computer radio button
OK
Select the General Tab
Click on the Save Button
Connect and try to rip a cd on the remote computer through an rdp session.
