Greyed tracks due to renamed folder

Post by _Chris_ » Thu Aug 03, 2017 2:44 pm

I renamed a few folders containing 1,000's of tracks and now have loads of greyed out tracks. It was and still is critical for the folders to keep the new names. How can I quickly get the tracks playable please?

Try Locate moved missing files menu option
Where's the db and ini stored
Reporting Bugs
Where tags are stored

If you've just renamed folders and otherwise the files are in the same place then the Update Location of Files in Database script is the easiest option.

I've found that Locate Moved/Missing Files can sometimes mismatch the files when working on very large quantities.

Did you rename them outside of MM without MM running?

track properties; dir/fn mask configurations; check out ZvezdanD's scripts
MMW 4.1.18.1842b; fav scripts > RegExp Find & Replace 5.1.0; Magic Nodes 5.1.0; Advanced Duplicate Find & Fix 3.8.2;
Backup 6.0; Clear Now Playing Button 1.2
...always back it up, especially before doing anything major!!!

Thanks all for these helpful responses - I will try these. If it helps, I renamed the folders within MM.

Hi,
Can you please tell us step by step how you renamed folders in MMW? I'm asking that as if you rename Library folders they should be automatically updated (at least it is how it works for me).

I'm on hols at the moment, and the ext hd for this is at home, but will see next week. I renamed the folders just by highlighting the folder name (within MM), then changing it.

Interesting. It should have just renamed without a problem.

Although, if you just rename by changing the case, it won't reflect in the database.
You have to remove the folder(s) and rescan to get it to show correctly (collapse/expand folder(s) doesn't work for case).
But, either way, it shouldn't affect playback of the files.
