MMW hangs in Start/Task Bar when closing [#14999]

I have had a problem (Win7 Pro) with MMW (v.1875) hanging on closing since mid-July (when I was prompted to install the new version. The only way to clear it from the taskbar is to reboot the computer...task manager will NOT stop the process. A trouble ticket has been pending since then (WVT-241-47999) and have had no response back to date. When I run a dbgview log, upon closing MMW, the log consistently stops at the point it "closes UPnP device".

After spending a lot of time trying to identify the problem, I have been able to reproduce this problem and a potential solution. Just before I updated to v.1875, Microsoft released a security update for Windows (KB4338818--JULY 10, 2018). This update is known to have some issues and from what I can tell, it is also interfering with MMW. I don't know if this is a conflict from MMW or if it's due to the Microsoft update. In either case, if KB4338818 is installed, and I wait for a while or open/close MMW a few times, MMW will hang at the "stopping UPnP device" stage, as shown in the debug log. If I remove the Windows update, MMW seems to work appropriately and does NOT hang, at least for the length of time I've tested (multiple times). I have waited as long as about 1.5 hr with MMW open and it closes properly under these circumstances.

Is anyone aware of any issues with MMW with this update from Microsoft installed?

KB4338818 is cumulative update and a bit hard to tell if it influenced UPnP Server

After having removed the noted update (KB4338818) I again ran windows update (I had previously hidden this update from installing). Now, the Windows update is saying that my system is up to date and an attempt to install KB4338818 failed. There are numerous reports of how this update had caused similar problems to those I've described for MMW as well as others. I don't know if MS pulled the update or not but I am now convinced that this roll-up was the cause of my problems and I will not try to install it again. I'm sure trying to hunt through that update to discover the problem would be a herculean task, if not impossible. I appreciated your comments.

Hi, I am unable to replicate on Windows 7 Pro with the same update installed.

Could you please replace your current UPnP.dll in the MM install folder by this one:

It will be much descriptive log, but should show more.
