"Virtual Album" options?

Hi, MM gurus and fellow users!

I've now gotten most songs on CD - and thus on my computer - that I had on cassettes growing up. However, the cassette albums are not always available on CD (and some songs not even available, so had to get some digitally.)

What I'd like to do is "recreate" those albums but not duplicate the songs I already have.

The only options I've been able to come up with are:
1) Duplicate the content, tagging the duplicates with the "album" they're from
- this has the downside of duplicating further, as I already have many songs multiple times just from normal collecting.

2) Change the existing content to the albums I had on cassette
- This has the downside of not really knowing what album they came from should something happen, or if I want to listen to _that_ album.

3) Use "Original Title" or other alternate fields for the virtual album
- This has the downside that I'd need to keep track of these, AND lose the possibility of using the fields for other things.
(I'm already using the "Custom" fields 1-5 for other tracking.)

and 4) Create playlists for the albums
- This has been the best option so far

What I'd like to know is.... am I overlooking an alternative?
I thought the "virtual CD" version was something different at first... (It's not well documented what that's for, that I see at any rate.)

Does anyone have any other ideas that approach or meet what I'm trying to accomplish?

I look forward to reading your ideas!

There is information on this on the forum. Something with virtual files in Windows I think.

Have a look at this add on, I think it’s what your asking for, I’ve not used it myself tho.

The file metadata can be faked in Windows, but not the actual file data which is used by Mediamonkey, which are tags in the file itself.
The only way I could really do that is make a copy of the file and change the tags.

I'm trying to avoid copying the files.

That's it. It allows you to have multiple entries for the same file in MediaMonkey (and thus different tags), but on playback it plays the 1 copy of the file you have.
