[SOLVED] ASIO stutter on opening seconds of HD tracks

Post by bigkid »

Hi all. I recently upgraded my media PC and have struck a bit of an issue with playback of HD tracks. I use the ASIO4ALL driver to send to an external Chord QuteEX USB DAC. Previous PC played nicely with this setup. Now, however, when I double click to play a HD song (anything over 48kHz), there is a pause and some stuttering before the song settles and plays normally. The stuttering varies and can go on for 10 secs or so into the song. If the song then finishes and then selects the next HD song in the list, the song plays without stuttering. If I double-click another HD song mid-playback or stop the song and double-click another, I get the stutter again. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the ASIO4All and Chord Drivers. Same result. Appreciate advice on how this might be resolved.

Cheers,

Allan

Hi,
Does same happen if you select WASAPI?

Note that ASIO output plug in not officially supported not maintained by MediaMonkey Team and we are not sure that it is optimized to work with MMW.

Hi Pavle.

Wasapi hasn't worked with my DAC since the Windows 10 Creator update some time ago. I have posted some info on it here if anyone is interested:

So, I have had to use ASIO. I tried kernal streaming though and got the same brief stuttering. However, earlier today I was looking at the USB drive that contains my music. I tried another drive and it worked fine. May be a policy restriction on the first drive - will look into it. Either way, I have a solution. Thanks.

Hi,
Change USB Port for DAC, it can be easily issue with driver init and or if you are using USB HUB a bandwidth issue.

Also Reinstall drivers.

Hi Pavle. Thanks. Looks like it is working now. Moved the DAC as you suggested to another port, away from the port where the drive with the music files is attached. Maybe the usb ports in close proximity on the motherboard are sharing resources. Either way, it is working fine now. Thanks for the advice. :-)

Cheers,

Allan
