MediaMonkey 4 doesn't play aac audio files with mp4 extension

Post by sysifus » Fri Sep 20, 2019 2:21 pm

Hi

I have a very rare problem. Mediamonkey plays aac audio files only if the extension of the file is "m4a". If the extension is "mp4" shows an error about needing a codec, and redirects to the page of quicktime. If I rename the file to change extension to "m4a", Mediamonkey plays it without problem.

No problem with other players, such as Winamp or VLC.

Hi,
AAC Container is different to MP4 and M4A and MMW report error as file extension is correct, thus standard plugins do not play them.

VLC especially and Winamp have their own in build decoders that have error checking and decode Data stream instead of format.

MM5 will have better checker and reports on such cases.

Thanks. It seemed strange to me that on my previous computer MediaMonkey played those same files, with the same operating system (Windows 10) and the same version of the program. ¿Maybe a windows registry problem?
