'Find more from same' alternative to Windows Explorer [#15999]

Post by thebluemask » Fri Sep 27, 2019 6:40 am

I'm trying out some alternatives to Windows Explorer (namely XYplorer) and I've set Windows to use this as the default file explorer. So if I click on any folder in Windows it now opens in XYplorer instead of the standard Windows Explorer.

But in MM if I go to 'Find more from same>Folder (Explorer)' it still opens with Windows Explorer. Is this hard coded into MM or is there a way I can opt to use a different file explorer?

I don't think there is a user setting for this.

Thanks. With a bit of digging around today I found a MM extension on your site (called 'External Tools') that kind of works around it and allows you to define an external app:

But seeing as Windows manages to cope with using a different file manager at a system level it would be great if MM also respected that setting.

In other words, by right-clicking 'Find more from same>Folder (explorer)' in MM it should use whatever is set as default file manager to open the file contents.

Thanks :)

Hi,
Can you pleas let me know value of "Shell" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" and "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell" registry keys?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon is set to explorer.exe - maybe that's the problem - should I change it to XYplorer?

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell is set to XYplorer.

Hi,
Yes that is the problem, but I am not sure that Win 10 will allow you to change that easily Or will revert back to Explorer as it your desktop environment.
