Just for the record, in a week or two i will merge my library with another one of equal size full of Greek songs that I have been organizing for the past month. Currently the problem is the space as i want to have them all together. I allready ordered 2 400GB Western Digital´s which i will put them in a file server machine that i have setup from spare hardware on a Gigabit Ethernet.
I calculate that after the merge of all my songs (including those on DVDs) i will almost fill the one disk (aprox 350GB) and will have enough space to get me going for the next year (or two)...

I am just a guy who loves music....

I have spend many years to get this collection, and also i am a DJ which means that big and well informed collection are one way street to earn my money.
On the other hand, no matter how much time I spend to it, my collection is almost always chaotic....
I guess this is a generic problems with big collections and i have learned to live with it.

PS. I forgot to mention my 100mbit internet connection (no this is not a typing mistake) which helps a lot on creating big collections... just don't say anything to Peke because he will definetely have a heart attack, lol

Hmmmm... You really do not want to my heart fails or want?
BTW one thing is certain that I would triple my collection if I had that connection now or at least I'll not buy music as much as now I'm buying it.
I have had to 155Mbit connection for a two weeks (damn that was fast) :) at that time all online internet MP3s were legal.

Ubernet collection

Postby music_system » Wed Nov 16, 2005 12:57 am

I have roughly 55000 songs (4500 CD´s) in variable bit rate using the ubernet standard, all on 2 HD´s, 400GB used.

This collection is built via the Ubernet private sharing communities. I know some members of these communities have 1.5TB of music. I am pretty sure that they do not listen to 80% of it, but I guess it is addictive to collect music if it comes for free.

Quality VS Quantity.....

argggg, what should i choose......

bah... i'll stick to quantity for now...

after all, at least 50% of my collection if perfectly organized, so i still have more quality than Judas (do the math)

Good to see the discussion grow

You can have Quality and Quantity, you just have to pay attention as your collection grows. Use NoClone for your data bumps when you have to and delimit old tracks. My collection continues to grow! Happy as a clam with the organization. It is nearly all organized properly, because it is burned properly. I'm finally going after album art as I listen to it. Nice to see everyone enjoying the forum. :D
