Simple (I think) FLAC to mp3 Sync Question

My collection is in FLAC, but when I sync, I was to convert to mp3. At the moment, I have to reconvert on the fly everytime I sync. Is there a way I can have a 'shadow' folder with converted mp3's ready, so they don't need reconverting on the fly? Sorry i'f this is obvious, I've searched, but I'm not sure what the correct terminology is for what I want to do.
