Whats the difference between the Macintosh Ipod and a windows ipod? When i was trying to put music on my ipod for the first time (on a window computer) it told me that: in needed to restore and update my ipod to make it a "windows ipod" because it was a "macintosh ipod". Whatever that means. So, whats the difference?

My guess is that you aren't the original owner of this iPod & that it was previously used with a Mac. No big deal - just go ahead & reformat it for Windows.

Does subsequently connecting to itunes AND syncing music muck up the MM setup?

I ask because my laptop is a macbook but my desktop is Vista64. It would be REALLY REALLY GOOD to be able to go between them (that way ratings playlists etc. get cross-synced so to speak).

Obviously on my mac I have to use itunes :( What a PITA program for those old school manually manage types like me

Yeah, the iPod gets really confused when you sync with both.

OK thanks, good to know.

I findally worked it all out and apart from the onthego playlist which MM has trouble with everything seems to be working including ratings, which is great as I'm finally starting to put ratings on my 70Gb library and would hate for that to be specific to my PC or my ipod

Look i'm not an expert but what i think is that maybe you can get a HFS driver for windows. There is a Ext driver for windows to use Linux partitions/drives with windows. Or rwhy don't try with linux??? or use a virtual machine on your mac with windows and put iTunes or something (MediaMonkey) there and sync.

There're just a few ideas, i hope they work!!!

How about syncing w/ another 3rd party program (e.g. amarok in linux) aside from iTunes?

It would suck if you could only sync to one program on one PC at a time, be it itunes or mediamonkey or whatever. I'm also OS agnostic and often move between machines and OSes (XP at work, macbook laptop, Vista64 desktop, and more test machines than you can shake a stick at... I'm a tech addict lol).

Anyone that's done this would appreciate if they could advise their experiences.

MM only syncs half the songs I've selected... I'm using IPod Nano 3rd gen 8GB. I followed all the instructions...

Do you have the proper file types specified for the device? Do you have the "auto-conversion" feature configured to handle any incompatible files?

I have an IPOD and a laptop with windows XP and a new desktop with Vista 64.
I can play all saved songs in Itunes with the laptop, but I can see the same Playlists in Itunes with the desktop Vista 64, but when I clcik on a song nothing happens.
No error message, no song is played.

What gives????

Still problems Syncing Album Art with iPod

Postby RabanePaco » Thu Sep 24, 2009 6:04 am

I have checked all the threads on this subject, but none of the solutions solve my problem. [I hope I didn't miss the real one.] I get the impression it is a problem that still hasn't really been solved yet.

I have written an extensive analysis of the problem here.

Please have a look at it if you think you have a solution.

Thanks.

Hello all, thanks to your suggestions I was able to synchronize my nano 8GB 5th generation with MM (3.1.1.1261 licensed) but I cannot see any tracks in it. I can put and remove songs, I can see them browsing iPod folders but I cannot play them, iPod returns zero tracks in it when music menu is accesed. Any further advice? Thanks in advance, ciao!

Hello, this is lorenz of the previous post (posted while I was away from my PC...)
Thanks nohitter151, I did install 3.1.2.1280 and it works with my 5th generation iPod.
Basic functions tested: adding/removing albums, playlist, single songs. I will post any issue in the forum.
Thanks again, ciao
