Playlists (*.pla) to Creative Zen

Post by Lady_Gerbil »

I have a new Creative Zen, and I'm trying to get playlists onto it. I need to export the playlists to *.pla format.

I've already tried the script here (http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10678), but it doesn't appear to work in MM3, I get a syntax error. The author of that script doesn't appear to be active any more.

Help! How can I get my playlists to *.pla format? What do other Zen owners use to get their playlists onto their players? Is there a work-around?

I have both the Zen and the Vision M and I use MM to import my playlists onto my player. This is sufficient to meet my needs. However, if you wish to edit the playlists on your player, you can use the Creative Media Explorer, it will make the changes but you will end up with the new playlist and the original playlist on your player, one will be a .pla and the other will be a .m3u. Also, you can use the Export All Playlists and export the playlists to your hard drive, import them into the Creative Mediasource software and import them to your player that way. I use MM exclusively for all of my importing needs, the only time I use the Creative software is for the imports of my photos and videos. Just make sure when you use MM to import to your player you go to the configuration and setup your playlists to go to the /My Playlists/ folder. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your response!

This is how I previously was trying to put playlists on my Zen.
1) Right click playlist and select "export to *.m3u"
2) Copy and paste to Zen's Playlist and/or My Playlists folders (I wasn't sure which one to use) using Windows Explorer

The Zen is unable to read *.m3u, that was my problem.

I tried another way. Right click the playlist, select "Send to," select the Zen. Apparently this converts the playlist from an *.m3u to a *.pla and makes everything work just right!

So, thank you again for your response. I don't have to use Creative's crappy sync software, yay!

Hi, just wondering what I do when I need the playlist in a certain order. Streamripper pulls songs that overlap, so I need to have them in a playlist in the order they were created so they are seamlessly mixed together.

Using MM 3.01
