Syncing Desktop and Portable Install

Postby Froklsnt » Wed Jan 11, 2012 9:15 am

I run a Mediamonkey portable installation on my external hard drive for music on my laptops etc. I also have it installed on my desktop, both have a full compliment of the library files (~40000 Music Files). I would like to synchronize the two libraries regularly, and I'm looking for advice on how to best handle that. I know I could simply always run off the external, but I prefer to have a desktop install and a more secure copy of the library as a back-up of sorts. If I cannot sync the stats etc between them, I at least need to sync added and modified files between the two. Thoughts?

Also I thought that in MM4, you were going to be able to mark folders on devices for syncing, as opposed to marking non-music folders for exclusion. What came of that?

Yes, that is implemented now.

Where is that feature located? I Only see the option to exclude folders when syncing a device. That is under the auto-sync options. For a note I am using the generic USB plug-in.

This issue is secondary to the bigger question I have about how to/if I can sync a portable install to a non-portable, or the best facsimile to that.

The only folders that are considered in the sync are the folders listed at "Destination". Other folders are excluded from the portable scan.

I'm still looking for input on this. Is there a good way to sync a desktop library and a mobile install library on a portable hard drive?
