Samsung Galaxy S3 sync

Okay, after many syncs I now seem to have some consistent behaviour. As the flac track from the post above had synced correctly previously I wanted to try and work out why it wasn't working now. Before each sync I would do a blank sync (i.e. deselect the playlist and let MM delete the tracks from the phone) and I had set the sync options to convert all tracks above 128kbps to 128kbps mp3.

I created a new playlist with only that particular flac track and synced to the S3 and it remained "hidden" to the music player. I then converted it to 128kbps mp3 on the PC and added this to the playlist (with a slightly different name) along with the original flac track. After syncing the pre-converted mp3 track was available but the original flac track converted in the sync process was hidden. To check if there was a problem with the flac track I added another from the same album and synced. Now the original flac track and the pre-converted mp3 were showing up on the phone but the latest flac track added to the playlist was hidden. I added another flac track to the playlist and sure enough the last track added would be hidden but all the other tracks were available.

Wondering if it was just flac tracks that had this problem, I added a 320kbps mp3 track to the playlist and synced again. Now all of the flac tracks and the pre-converted mp3 track were showing but the converted 320kbps mp3 track was hidden. Now I thought it may just be the last track in the playlist that remains hidden so I added a 128kbps mp3 track to the playlist and synced again. Both the original 128kbps mp3 tracks and all the flac tracks were available but the converted 320kbps mp3 track was still hidden.

It appears that MM copies tracks that don't need converting to the phone straight away and then converts tracks as necessary. It seems that the last converted track somehow gets hidden. I can't be quite sure but I would assume that this may be an issue with MM, but that may be somewhat uncharitable.

Okay, I was being uncharitable and I apologise. I synced 519 tracks to the internal memory and the Music Player app showed only 518 tracks in the playlist. I have since tried the Poweramp app and that has all 519 tracks in the playlist.

Sorry for no reply, But I'm trying to figure out what happened as I tried to replicate using friends S3 without success. No matter what I put in Sync and what playlists are synched/created all went OK. Friend of mine uses Poweramp Music Player on S3 and Sunc Usong USB Mass drive option.

MM 4.1 will have many improvements in Sync, ...

I have had a similar issue with tracks being "hidden" to music players on the S3 (both "Music Player" and the Google Play music player), and with playlists not working correctly. I am using only the internal storage on the S3 to store my music and playlists. I have the following playlists in MediaMonkey:

"TestOne" contains a single 256 kbps mp3 file
"TestTwo" contains a 160 kbps mp3 file and a 192 kbps mp3 file
"TestThree" contains a 160 kbps mp3 file, a 192 kbps mp3 file, and another 192 kbps mp3 file

I performed the following steps, which seem to produce consistent results.

1. Delete any music and playlist files on the internal storage using Windows Explorer
2. Drag "TestOne", "TestTwo" and "TestThree" to "SCH-I535" (the S3's internal storage) in MM

Observation: There are no songs shown in the music players on the phone. The playlists do show up in the music players, but they are all empty. Using Windows Explorer or My Files on the S3, I can see that the music files were copied to the internal storage. Playlist files appear on the internal storage, but they are all reported to be 0 bytes in size.

3. Drag "TestOne" to "SCH-I535" in MM once again

Observation: The song in the playlist "TestOne" is now visible in the music players on the phone. The playlist "TestOne" now contains the correct song in the phone's music players. No other songs are visible, and the other two playlists remain empty.

4. Drag "TestThree" to "SCH-I535" in MM once again

Observation: The songs in the playlists "TestOne" and "TestThree" are now visible in the music players on the phone. The playlist "TestThree" shows 2 songs in the phone's music players; it is missing one. The songs in "TestTwo" remain hidden.

5. Drag "TestTwo" to "SCH-i535" in MM once again

Observation: All of the songs now appear in the media players on the phone. The playlist "TestTwo" now contains the correct songs in the phone's music players. Using Windows Explorer, the size of the playlist files are still reported to be 0 bytes.

If you restart your phone after step one, when it comes back on, it should display playlists properly when you drag them over.

The only way I have found for MM to consistently work for me is to delete the Music directory on my SD card before each sync. If there is no "Music" folder on the SD card, everything on my sync list syncs perfectly including playlists.

However, the second I try to sync with files already on the SD card, MM will randomly delete and randomly add only a few of the songs on my sync list before either saying it has completed or locking up.

I had the same problem on this thread (MM giving an error: problem copying file) with syncing a galaxy samsung s3 and deleting the Music folder also fixed the issue for one sync. It seems the problem is related to an issue with the content of the Music folder.

Samsung S3 only supports MTP natively.
To use UMS/MSC, the device has to be rooted and an additional app is needed. Most users won't do that, because it can be tricky and risky. And it isn't possible for the internal storage!

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried restarting the phone after Step 1 and also after Step 2, but unfortunately the behavior remains the same. I am seeing similar results when using auto-sync as well.

This seems to be the same issue some users have been experiencing with various devices for some time now, not just the S3.

My problems relate to a Samsung Galaxy S2 with the music on a Sandisk 16GB micro SD card. There is 7GB free on the SD Card and about 8GB of music. Every time I do an autosync it says there is not enough room on the SD Card and it re-copies the entire 8GB over again. It also does not delete the files I have deleted form the sync list (Yes I have checked the delete option).

I can manually delete everything form the card before sync as suggested but it would be much preferable for autosync to work properly.

Hi all. Let me share my experienece with this problem.
I've been trying a lot of different setting variations, and finally got something to work, in kinda weird way.

My situation: Galaxy S3 International, trying to use Send to(sync) to Internal memory.

The sync configuration I'm using right now:
Use Unicode
Use Linux folder seperator

So how it works for me:
I make a playlist, and use Send To feature. At this moment, I open my media player and check sent playlist and also Last added playlist . Send is empty and Last added doesnt have new files in it. Then I sync (press Send To in desktop Mediamonkey) and check the situation in phone again. Everything is OK! As it should be. Songs are added and playable.

Other important things:
I'm using Winamp. I've also tried DoubleTwist, Mixzing, WikiTunes, RealPlayer. While Winamp seems to 'see' synced files after my 'doublesync', apps like DoubleTwist and RealPlayer doest see files and playlist.

Some facts:
Files seem to be added to phone even in first sync, but the problem is with input in makes in playlist files. Files are already on the phone and completely playable, problem is that lines referencing to file location on phone seems to be a bit wrong, so some apps finds a way to fix that and still read and play it correctly (Winamp, Mixzing) and some doesnt(DoubleTwist and RealPlayer).

Solutions:
1) Are there any apps that could let me see the added playlist in .txt format?
2) Could syncing to SD card solve my probelm?

I am just writing to say that I am seeing the same overall issue with both my and my wife's S3. As mentioned before, the "Phone" and "Card" (16GB in both) reporting in MM 4.0.6.1501 is backwards. I am able to sync and things work relatively well through that process, though I will notice it hangs after the transfers are complete, and I just have to wait an inordinate amount of time for it to finish whatever it is that's going on. Very weird. I wish you could see what it's doing to help identify what the hold up is all about, but oh well. (I'll admit, I haven't read this thread completely).

Still, there are a few other issues I run into:
1) I can swap phones, but MM doesn't recognize that a DIFFERENT phone has been plugged in - it thinks it's the same one as before, so my sync settings and name settings don't change for the different device. Windows (XP SP3) correctly sees both phones as two separate devices, but for some reason MM thinks it's the same device. This makes syncing difficult as I would have to change the synced items/settings each time.
2) I thought I could get away with just doing a "send to" for my phone, but unfortunately even though MM says this will "synchronize" it doesn't perform the sync-tasks properly. For example, down-conversions don't happen and album art isn't copied over either.

These issues are very disappointing to see on this software. I hope they get fixed quickly. As with other people, I am happy to help test on my phone if desired...

FYI, further disappointment. Looks like the sync was working fine on the first day, but now it's not working. I see the popup for some activity that's supposed to happen, but it just cancels out and never actually syncs. This is an unusable situation.

Is the activity for this bug being followed somewhere else?

Syncing with the Galaxy S3 remains a problem.
Some playlist do sync, but others not. They appear on the Galaxy, but they are empty, while other playlist sync correct.

If have no idea any more what this can be. Is it a bug?
